Advice, Please...
On Father's Day in 1998 I went to my local AD to purchase a Submariner. I was talked out of it by a family member and bought a DateJust. While it has been fine, every day I look at my watch and wish I had purchased the Submariner. This year I retired and thought I would buy the Submariner as a gift to myself. Question is, which one? Do I try to replace the one I should have bought (14060)? Try to find value with a 114060? Or, just get the latest iteration the 124060. I have slender wrists (7"). No comment too trivial. Any and all help greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Get the watch of your desires, don't fall into the same trap and let a bunch of watch enthusiasts push their desires onto you.
I would, of course, vote for this one since you mention it. MSub8.JPG

I would say the original model would be best as you'd never forget "not getting it".
Your 3rd Rolex can be any other you'd like. But the 14060 calls from the past. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

It's a chronometer tag that wouldn't have been supplied with a non-chronometer (i.e. two-line) Submariner.

Absolutely go for the 5 digit. There’s something so romantic about a 5 digit sub. It’s the one constant in my collection for 25 yrs. I’d say try to find a 1998 version to make it extra special. Check out Tropical Watch (member here). Jacek typically has a huge selection of vintage Rolex. Let him know what you’re looking for and I’m sure he’ll search it out. |

I think the 14060M is a perfect choice and there are some nice examples available.
My ‘K’ is one of the most accurate watches I own.

If you can, go try the different models on. Not a bad choice in the Submariner line-up, just a choice of appearance and wear. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Another vote for the 5-digit - 1998 thru end of production in 2011. I dumped my 114060 for this. Fit is excellent on my 7" retired wrist

Thank you!
Thanks to all who replied. I was leaning towards the 5-digit myself. Only questions now are.... How can I get comfortable with purchasing a pre-owned sub with confidence, and whom to trust? Thanks, again.
