AP Diver: Size perception

They say the camera doesn’t lie! But it does!! In one of these pictures, the Diver is way too big, whereas in the other it is a good size.

In truth, I know this is too big for me, but I love this watch so it’s my indulgent ‘don’t give a damn’ watch!

enjoy it bro - it's a bulky design, should and recommended to wear big and bold. Look nice on you

A big part of this is due to how camera phones work.
If you take a close up the angles will always make it look big (per 2nd pic). Take from further away and then zoom in on the pic to get a better real world view of how it looks (per 1st pic).

almost all watches in my mind look huge in close up wrist shots. You really have to wear it in person to really get a good understanding. I got the Diver because I was worried about the 44mm sizes, while I love my Diver and glad I got it, I've tried on a 44mm ROO and think its awesome!

Here is a ROC and ROO Diver comparison on my wrist - they are almost the same size IMO (width and height).

As I said on your other thread I think it looks fine, esp in that mirror shot, an AP ROO that doesn't fill your wrist or looks small on you is just wrong.

Pics can be deceiving, in the wider shot the lugs fall outside my wrist edges whereas in reality they do not.

Neil, buddy, then stop taking pics so close. Every time I see your pics on it, I’m like “my English friend doesn’t realize it doesn’t fit” but I’m too nice to post it. Wait? I blame it on the bourbon

AP Diver: Size perception

Looks great. They’re supposed to look big. Dive watches have always looked big - 60 years ago, 40mm Subs were clownishly large compared to dress watches of the day.

I wear a diver and my wrist isn’t big.

It wears like a sea dweller with the major difference being the magnificent AP rubber strap makes the watch fit to perfection. Enjoy it

The Diver is an offshore. Offshore watches are supposed to look big. From your photos, it looks fine. No worries.

I know it looks it but these aren't particularly close, they are normal wrist shots, the wide one was very tricky to take and I had to extend alot to take it. I did it when I first got the watch and won't be doing it again, nor will I use mirror shots, just way too much hassle. This watch is all about capturing the fine details, so close is fine. We should all know how the camera makes things seem bigger and adds ten pounds.

Cheers, lots of renewed interest in Lange now and I've been looking again at their offerings, ZW, Dato, but still prefer this to those and won't be trading it.

I’ve considered the new slimmer 42 ROO but I just can’t get over the size on me. I love seeing it on the guys here. I’m waiting on an AP that I’m hoping is perfect for me. Been out of the AP game for far too long

39/40 is my preferred these days for my 6.5. That said I recently added two 42s. Guess it ebs and flows when you are nuts like us on here

If in reality it does have the lugs going way past your wrist edges then you should pass, but if it is close then I'd still go for it on a ROO, I haven't not had a ROO for nearly ten years now and think this will stay the way, as I am not so much a RO guy.

I agree with this. I am quite particular about size when I dress for work or for formal. Almost all my watches are 36 to 40mm with the exception of my 44mm offshore. This is on a 6.75 flat wrist.

First off, top down pictures makes it even larger, so a wrist shot of the arm helps more. Second, embracing an offshore is accepting that it is oversized and owning the look.

Here are a few pics of the offshore and a more representative picture on arm versus top down wrist shot. You will see it looks like it overwhelms my wrist but in the arm pic it looks more appropriate by my eyes.

It is indeed much more relevant how a watch looks in the overall perspective of body and arm size than wrist itself.

Yes, look absolutely fine on you there in the mirror shots. As has been said before the 44 is less top heavy than the 42, which is a major factor for me in how a piece wears, and so as it spreads smoothly over my wrist it really doesn't feel as big as my Breitling Seawolf which feels much thicker or my old DSSD.

Agree with this. My 44 is far more comfortable than my 42s.
