Why does Vasheron not get the same love as AP, Patek, Omega, or Rolex… ?

vacheron constantin has an illustrious history and makes some of the finest and most magnificent timepieces money can buy. For example that overseas with the intense blue dial is arguably one of the most blue pieces out there. I think they deserve more attention, it truly boggles my mind how under appreciated they are.

What do you think?

VC was kinda sorta part of the 1960s "Holy Trinity" marketing effort, tho it now being 2024 everyone realizes it was just a marketing scheme over 60 years ago that no one ever questioned.

VC is an EXCELLENT brand, many here on TRF love them

I like mine a lot.

They aren't mass marketed.

They are considerably more expensive than most of the popular brands you mentioned with sales tax exceeding the cost of an entry Rolex in many cases.

$25,000 for a steel watch. $64,000 for a gold chrono on strap etc. So they aren't going to be widely accessible to most even if people loved them as a household name.

I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I have two and I find them to be a couple of my favorite watches - 5500 blue, RG 1921 40mm, so nice. As for why the general population doesn't know or care, that probably comes down to nothing more than marketing.

I'm a huge fan..."Mr. Vacheron" lol

Anyway, from speaking to the brass...they like that it's a IFYKYK brand. Their customers like being in a unique club so to speak (from speaking to many collectors).

It's quite interesting. I've been to the factory and it's spectacular.

They only make around 20k pieces a year. They are opening more and more high end boutiques and I think that will get more eye balls.

So, it's a fantastic brand...but most people just don't really know it or think of it after Patek or AP or others.

They are a great brand. I think relative to their peers (patek and AP)...Patek is king and AP has spent considerable time and money marketing the brand. Much more than any other brand I can think of outside Rolex. They put their watches on celebrities as a general strategy and have been doing that for the better part of a decade.

I think it's a good thing that they aren't well known by the public.

Overseas line is a knock off of Genta designs, people prefer originals hence advantage AP/ PP.

222 line was discontinued until recently so VC was missing original design in the category. This is changing but lack of SS is a problem.

Traditional line of watches is interesting but generally such watches were out of favor. Further, competition in traditional category is fierce. Too many entrants with similar or better provenance. Brands like Lange, Patek and FPJ are head and shoulders above VC in terms of perception.

Omega and Rolex are not competitors of VC.

Truly superb representation of the brand. Thanks for sharing these beauties!

I might be misremembering, but I seem to recall a few years back, you being a bit down on VC. Looks like times have changed!

Thanks! It wears well on my wrist. The Overseas also fits me perfect. My wrist is 7.5 “ so they all fit me well.

Thanks Cru! I had a few Patrimony’s which I weren’t crazy about. Really love these 3 references.

Yes. And I want to add it houses the most important chrono movement of the past 75 years, if not in history full stop. And then arguably finished at a higher level than anyone has done it before (although the Geneva Seal 27-70 will be equal or very close)

„Appreciation“ is not just a matter of quality products, but also a matter of marketing and such. Vacheron makes some great watches, got two of them myself. They‘re just not as „good“ at marketing. On the plus side, they‘re a good choice, if you want a watch that‘s not recognized by everyone.

Love mine and got an unreal deal on it was less than a 41mm sub on secondary. Think I'd rather have this:

It's only stainless steel sport watches that get outsized amounts of love. Hence Rolex, Royal Oak (all other Audemars' are shunned), Aquanaut, Nautilus. When Lange produced the stainless Odysseus it was sold out before it came out.
No one really cares about Omega except for the Snoopy. Sure, you have to own one OSP to be a real collector on the condition that you never wear it.
Vacheron had the 222 but changed the design so much by the time the luxury sport watch craze hit that no one knew anything about its history and Vacheron failed to reintroduce it in a timely fashion.
