Just acquired this 1680

Hi guys,

I have just got this 1680 white Mark 2 watch only with serial 61xxxx, does the watch look ok and all parts in correct period, and most importantly is the dial look fine?

This is my first VR.

Thank you very much for your comments.

Depends how picky you are and your plans. It certainly devalues the watch. If you ever plan to sell, it will definitely be an issue.

Did the seller disclose the blemish.

I’d suggest sending back for a full refund or partial refund based on this issue.

he should have pointed it out to you. You should also have gone 'hey where is this mark you mentioned'. Watches are a funny thing, if it was a car and someone mentioned a dent you would ask to see it surely?

I wouldn’t call it a very big problem unless it bothers you. If you’re comfortable with what you paid knowing this no worries. If it wasn’t disclosed and it bothers you might contact the seller and express your concerns.

The seller mentioned the flaw on the dial and said a watchmaker told him it was caused by once in a repair work the watchmaker took out the hands and scratched the dial. The dial was repainted with a dark ink pen. With this flaw in dial and also with the service bezel and the clapse the seller sold me at a bargin at 11300usd.

Hi,

Service crystal ans insert, could be a service crown.
Have you checked the hands with UV light ?
I like the case, doesn’t look abused by crazy polishers.
Regarding the dial, 11 300 USD is not such a good deal anymore but I would find it acceptable if the watch was properly serviced, otherwise if you tale into account the service parts (period correct inserts are not cheap) and the damaged dial, I would recommend a return and the beginning of a new hunt !

11.300 usd/9.700 euro isn't a good deal? Can you find me a similar one for a price lower than 11.3k like his?

Well, if you add 5/6k $ to get a clean dial (current one is damaged, not ruined but still…), a period correct insert and a service, not sure it is such a good deal.

If OP does not care about the damaged dial, why not, otherwise, I stand by what I said, I would not buy this watch with the aim of replacing the dial/hands.

Don't change the rules, now you start adding 5k for a dial. You simply can't find a similar example like his for that price. You get overpolished cases, bad bracelets and everything else that isn't what you really want.

If you want a perfect/showpiece example you can go out and start looking and buying the 15-25k ones.

So people should buy vintage watches by your rules ?

A damaged dial is a damaged dial, it hurts the value…

Thanks guys for the input. As for the insert I just found the below one for sale at almost 2000usd.

I think it is mk3 insert. Now I woukd like to know if this insert looks fine? Or should I look for a mk3bis insert as my 1680 is a 1979 with 61××××× serial?
