5513 Winding Stem Help
I have a 1972 5513 Sub.
The winding stem broke during an unfortunate drop. I have been searching for a new one. I cannot seem to find one. I ordered a few on Ebay and the threads are too large. I found out I have a 7020 crown. Everyone says the stem is 1mm. I think it is smaller. Anyone know? |

Ignore tap sizes, most supply house’s have them wrong, it should be a 0.9mm stem or Tap 10 if listed correctly. Most supply house’s list a tap 10 at 1.0mm which isn’t right.

What we have here, is a failure to communicate.

5513 Winding Stem Help
Aftermarket stems are usually made to fit the movement and they presume you will have the correct crown.
For example, the same stem for yours would fit non-quickset movements in many calibers 15xx for your Submariner 55xx. Wish I could help more but maybe you've got a mixup - 7020 isn't a crown, it's a tube, right? So maybe your crown wasn't right for your 5513 and caliber inside? Linesiders made a post last year that said: Mid 70s 5513 should be a 702 Three Dot Crown and 7020 Tube.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

7020 tube with a 702 crown.
Winding stem should be 0.9mm. Post some pictures of the watch so we can confirm crown, tube and stem?

If the answer was not in post 5, 6 or 8 you may have to source a quote from a RSC or a watchmaker?
Possible previous mismatch of parts?

Throw some pics up OP so we can check all parts are original/authentic?
Considering the relative ease of mixing and matching Rolex crowns on the same stem; this seems odd. As Andad says; possible mismatch of parts: Non-genuine crown or stem?

I tried to upload the photos but it’s impossible. I have no clue how to change the size. It says the max is 1250 x 1250. I am not tech savvy enough to figure that out.
I have a genuine crown fitted to a 702 tube according to a local watch maker. |

The original post suggests a 702 crown but a 702 crown will fit a 7020 tube, obviously, and I can't conceptualise why anyone would produce a stem with the wrong diameter for a 15XX movement and any 7mm (or other) Rolex crown. Is this the fire damaged watch with aftermarket case? You sure your watchmaker knows a genuine part from aftermarket or the subtle differences between crowns? Can always use something like https://postimages.org/ to upload photos and link them.

Hey OP, you were asked to post pictures to denote if anything was fake.. well..... I looked at a previous thread you posted on April 2024 and you mention: "I just inherited my grandfathers 5513. In the 2010s it was in a fire and he didn’t have the case replaced by Rolex. I guess back then the watch wasn’t worth what it is now. Anyway… they put an aftermarket case on. It really bothers me. Shape is off." https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=943451 Is this the case (pun intended)? |

He states most of the movement was replaced as well, aftermarket?! Also, looks like you've been hanging around a "replica" forum quite a bit.. |

5513 Winding Stem Help
This thread is an extension of the OP's earlier one cited by another member above.
Except now it is about a 7020 tube and a 702 crown. I'd suggest that anyone casting aspersions check their attitude. We have a great member named Jocke who regularly makes unique assemblages and garners kudos for that work. In this case the OP asserts he is only trying to make his grandfathers watch worthy. It’s a family heirloom in his mind. So it's a long term project to cobble a 5513 together in memory of a beloved grandfather that'll be different from any other 5513 on Earth. All I ask from the OP in return for the TRF community's advice and support is this: PM the pictures to any of us so we can post them up for the benefit of documentation here. (Because he said uploading was difficult for him) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

How did they even find an aftermarket case? |

If I recall correctly, a member gave him a lead to a 5513 midcase listed on eBay.

Finally figured out how to get the pictures resized.
Here is the crown with an old stem that ended up being too short. IMG_4932.JPG Thank you all for your concerns on my grandfathers watch. A lot of time and research lead me to leave it as is for the most part but I still need a stem. I happily wear the watch as it is and get to remember a great man every time I wear it. Through my research and parts buying, I had a lot of extra parts that I did not end up using and it sucked me into the Frankenstein / homage world and I built a beautiful 5517 homage. If you don't like that that's fine. I can understand why it would upset people. No need for accusations or name calling. That is unprofessional. This post is about a the proper thread size for a stem for a genuine 702 crown. If you don't want to help then that's fine. Don't help. If you do want to help I really appreciate it and thank you! |

Were you able to buy one of the genuine 5513 midcases on eBay?
That old aftermarket midcase could matter in your challenge with fitment of a genuine tube. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Unfortunately not. It was very pricy. I just left the aftermarket one for now. Starting to see why everyone gave up on it.

Guessing the stem was made for / cut for an OP or something with a smaller case size. Submariner will need longer. Apologies if it was the length you were after. From memory, it's something like 12.5mm.
Interested to see the heirloom now you've got the pics sorted. The case above looks in very good condition!

5513 Winding Stem Help
I understand - I was able to read your whole post before the deletion. I didn't take any offense about your quote of my earlier post. I withdraw my earlier comment about aspersions since there is some smoke and mirrors elsewhere. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
