Looks damaged. What’s the backstory?

Late 1980’s model 16233 that use to belong to a family member that passed away. Thought I would post it to see if anyone else has seen a dial like this. If it was common or not. Under loop it appears to have flaked away but there are no flakes or residue. Thanks.

Looks like some past water intrusion caused corrosion. If you’re considering buying it I’d pass. If you already own it I’d suggest a service.

Some dealers would refer to it as 'excellent'.

Looks like damage to the lacquer coating. Not uncommon, and there are many ways that they can manifest.

It's as some say likely moisture, and not unpleasant to my eyes. The dial is original as this model along with Lady Datejust and some day dates had T Swiss made T on footer ... which on other models would be a service dial.

IIRC, I've frequently seen these in the mid-to-late 80s, but I haven't really made a careful study of the timeline.

'Electric Cactus'?

Did Rolex list them as such in their catalogues?

Look like the original champagne dial turns into pink dial. I love the look. Such a cool one

Seen similar degraded dials like that many times as I’ve been restoring my Dad’s old watches.

Some like it, some don’t.

It needs a fitting name. May I suggest:

Zeus’ Handkerchief

Received my watch back from the AD today. A full service new crystal, crown and some gear inside and polished. Absolutely Gorgeous in my opinion. At first they said the face would need to be replaced, with a little resistance (I didn’t want it replaced) they said it wouldn’t have to be. The history is that it belong to my brother that passed away and it was given to me. It was not working and needed service. I wanted to keep it as original as possible. Thoughts.
