Appropriate to give a small gift to AD who came through?
I am wondering if it would be appropriate to give a small gift to my AD when she finally comes through with a watch I have been waiting for.
I'm not talking about an expensive gift, but rather something small, ie. a Starbucks gift card or something along these lines. What do you think? |

You can do what you choose, but most sales staff are pretty satisfied with the commission or increase in status that they get from the sale.
In some cultures, it would be an insult.

I almost gifted a Blanton’s, but decided not to at the end, couldn’t give it up!

I only have one Blanton’s and one Eagle Rare left, won’t open either until I get a replacement!

Personally I would find that a very awkward encounter from both ends, but everyone is different.

All I’ve ever done was send pizza to my AD after a purchase and that was really just because I abuse their free parking.

It would be appreciated but won't get you any bonus points towards your next purchase. If you do it, do it for the right reason (being a good person, not with an ulterior motive).

It sounds like the overall feeling to this entire thread is to not gift anything. Fine by me. I just wanted to find out what others do/did when they got the mythical call. |

Over the course of the year, I usually give a small gift to anyone who regularly does services for me. Yes, I pay for the services, but I still usually like to show appreciation. If you’re regularly interacting with this person, why not give them a Starbucks gift card? Giving a gift to the owner of the AD would be weird. But to a salesman who did right by you? Nah. By all means show your appreciation. If possible I try to do so with things that don't scream money such as event tickets or other items that for all they know didn't necessarily cost you money...even if they did. Along the lines of "I appreciate you keeping me in mind, here are some tickets that I can't use...I hope you can enjoy them". Or yes, if you know they are into it, booze always works. When we went into the AD to pick up my watch last year, we brought a nice bottle of wine for him. Normally I wouldn't think it necessary to give a gift to someone after giving him just shy of $11,000, but he managed to get my #1 choice -- the discontinued Sundust dial, AND we picked it up exactly one month to the day from when I first told him what I wanted. Heck, I would have given him a case of wine for that.

I get my salesman a good bottle of wine. I feel it’s a small gesture of thanks for coming through on a hard to get item. Don’t be a cheap ass. For all that say, it’s not a good idea. You just outed yourself. Have some respect! Cheap ass bums. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I was going to post this same question today. So I too would be interested to read what others think about this.
It seems appropriate to me, just was not sure what was normal. |

I bring him a bottle of whiskey after each purchase, he tends to reciprocate with champagne though.

I tried to give my sales guy a Starbucks card when I picked up my Daytona but he refused to take it. I appreciate that he didn't but really wanted to show my appreciation for his efforts.

Wanted to give my AD a gift after my CHNR allocation last year however
she advised she was not allowed to accept. I have been told that Rolex HQ are really cracking down on grey market dealing and gifts . I have been told that they are examining allocations and are suspicious where there is more than one allocation per customer per year. I am sure that some members here have received more than one allocation per year and half their luck. |

As long as your gift is not your phone number you'll be alright.

I think that might be an awkward interaction. Just say thank you.

They should thank you for your business. Not the other way around. What a backwards world we live in.
When I bought my house, my realtor gave me a gift. When my interior designer finished my house, she gave me a gift.

My realtor probably makes more money than I do. They are making tens of thousands of dollars or more off of the transaction. Same with the interior director. This is a salesman he definitely makes a lot less than I do. I give a gift to my housekeeper, I give a gift to the bartender that takes care of me at my watering hole. I give a little bit to the guy who sold me my car. Giving the AD (owner) a gift is more along to your examples. Giving a small gift to a salesman is not. |
