Which Rolex would you take on a Zombie Apocalypse?
Watching Z-Nation on Netflix the other night, it led me to seriously consider which watch I would take if I could take 1 with me for survival and I thought this would be a funny poll to post. For me its the daytona for timing.

I guess this would be the one watch you can't live without idea. Maybe a YM2 cause it has a timer on it, so you can time a person to see if he/she will change into a zombie.

Explorer II. the bezel is less likely to snag anything than a Sub/GMT bezel. it's also less likely to shatter.
the 24 hour hand and date would be useful as well Many people won't recognize it as a Rolex. Which is good, since crime will be rampant during the zombie apocalypse |

Id actually want the least complicated most durable. You wouldnt be able to find a watch repair guy anytime soon. So basic sub, sea dweller or deep sea (mainly because it can likely take bigger impacts).

I would prefer my G-Shock to any Rolex in the event.
I voted for the DSSD because it seems like it could take the hardest beating and keep ticking |

1680 on the left and SKX007J on the right. If the Rolex dies the Seiko will keep on going.
As advised by the department of redundancy department, always have a back-up. |

I would take my SD 4000. Rugged tool watch with thicker crystal.

None. I would go with a G-Shock from Casio.

I'd probably choose my sub 14060m. It might not be as durable as g-shocks, but then again good luck finding batteries for it couple years down the line. Plus I'd probably have an easier time bartering it for some weapons or food.

I used to believe in the tooth fairy, but never in zombies. My absolute favorite watch is my Y series all black GMT-II, bought new in 2003 and never been serviced. So that's the one I would take with me on any travel.

Daytona and a g-shock with bearing and compass. Still gotta have class, zombie or not.
Personal time For whatever reason you want. When the zombie apocalypse comes, will you really care what time it is somewhere else? Will you live underwater to avoid zombies? Do you care if it's Monday or Friday, or Feb or Nov? |

I was thinking the new Explorer 2 with the 3187 improvements for impact (recoil or rugged encounters).

The more robust and bulletproof, the better. Therefore the DSSD. I like the idea of a G-Shock but it would have to be solar powered, and even then I'm not so sure - in every zombie apocalypse movie I've ever seen there never seems to be much sunshine.

Submariner no date, 5513 is my choice.
Who's need date in zombie apocalypse anyway? |

The first month with 30 days will mess up that idea.

That's what I'm thinking too.
Obviously this is a cartoony discussion, but if we take the premise seriously to explore it properly, here's my answer: The main use I have for a wristwatch is to tell me the precise time on demand as quickly as possible with maximum legibility in all conditions. I expect it to be supremely reliable and as maintenance-free as possible. It should also stay secured to my wrist with as little chance for it to come free unintentionally as possible. Any complications outside of the 3 hands needed for precise time are just asking for trouble. Date functions will go out of whack at some point for sure, even for the mighty SkyDweller. GMT serves no real purpose, rotating bezels are potentially a good idea for helping to time things, but also introduce another failure point. There are really only two choices left, according to my criteria, the Explorer (which I own), and the Submariner No Date. After all, if and when the bezel breaks or fails, it basically becomes an Explorer at that point anyway. The OP range might work too, but it doesn't offer the oyster lock clasp, it has very little lume for night time visibility, and the stick hands/hour marks combo is arguably not as fast to read as the sport dials. |
