Panda Daytona vs Speedmaster white dial

It is kinda interesting to put my Panda Daytona and the new white dial Speedmaster together and make some comparisons. Made a video and hope you would like it!

Panda Daytona vs Speedmaster white dial

I absolutely ADORE the new white Speedmaster.

Personally I think it edges out the panda but only by a small margin. What does it for me are the non screw down pushers. They make the chrono much more usable this way.

You know you can just leave the pushers unscrewed on the Daytona for the same effect.

For some reason, with the black hands on the white dial, the hands look too thin to me. Is it an optical illusion, because the white hands and white lume makes the hands look thicker?

That makes a lot of sense. I have always thought the hands on the white dial Speedy seemed small.

You cannot guarantee WR if you keep the pushers unscrewed.

They're so you do not activate the pushers under water. The watch is wr to 100m with them unscrewed.

You got the wrong guy, mate: while you are completely right about the Daytona not having a panda dial, i am one of the few who engaged on this forum against the panda nonsense for the SS Daytona white dial.

I can vouch for your statement here as I recall and remember you as an educated and quite astute watch enthusiast

Any time someone calls a watch without solid panda subdials a panda, I think duh....

Side by side the Omega looks huge compared to the Rolex. The thicker bezel also makes the Rolex wear smaller to the eye.

I think the same. I do not care for white dials on already big watches - it just super sizes them.

Zero interest in this white dial Speedy.

I think an illusion is a factor here.

People forget that the 11 series Daytona started with the platinum version which was measured 39.5mm, which is why it was always marketed as a 40mm line.

The steel version as featured in this video is actually 38.5mm (due to the asymmetric lugs).

So we are seeing a 38.5mm vs 42mm watch.

Now the interesting part, the speedmaster FOIS is 39.4mm, it has exactly the same dial and bezel as the 42mm professional. It's the twisted lugs and crown guards that give it its larger size as per the calipers.

The dial and bezel of that speedy is around 39.4mm vs the 38.5mm of the steel Daytona. I agree with the larger dial and thinner bezel it looks way bigger despite being just 1mm bigger than the Daytona bezel to bezel.

I feel like the lack of rings around the subdials on the speedy look like a person who shaved off their eyebrows

That's pretty funny

I do like the look of the subdial rings on the Daytona, but the downside of them is the decreased legibility. The hour and minute hands can get sort of "lost" near those rings.

I can tell you as a white dial Speedy owner, the legibility is excellent. A quick glance is all it takes. Can't say the same for the Rolex.

I have tried both and did not really feel either of them. I was gutted when I tried on the Panda as this was my grail watch…. even my wife said as you as you tried the watch on it I could see it was not right. I think some of it was the size of the sub dials and the width of the black surround

It doesn't look that big on the wrist tho. And remember, Daytona is 38.5mm Speedy - 42mm. Of course there is a difference

New Daytona is 39.5mm I think. Speedmaster isn’t a true 42mm either if I recall correctly.

No - no difference between 12 and 11 Daytona diameters.

The Speedmaster is a true 42 in the sense that the case measures exactly 42mm across, however the bezel is only a little less than 40mm across. So it wears more like a 40-41. It's a really nice size and works for all but the smallest wrists.

Not comparing apples to apples IMO. I’m on the list for a white dial SS Daytona a long with several thousand of my closest friends. In the meantime, I’m enjoying my white dial Speedy.
