Icon5 Going backwards?

So as long as I can remember, I have been one of those Rolex or nothing type people when it came to luxury watches. Cared nothing about any other brands..... However, during the past six months I have become much more interested in Tudor and Omega. Even bought my first Tudor from a Tudor AD in Italy a few months ago.

This weekend went to the local Tudor AD and tried on a bunch of watches. Pelagos FXD, Black Bay 925, Black Bay 41, BiMetal GMT, and a few others. Went across the street to the Omega AD and tried on a couple watches there too.

So I believe most people look at these brands before the graduate to Rolex. Seems like I am going backwards.... maybe I am broken. Not sure if this is normal.....

Anyone else?

Rolex only is boring, there’s a big world of watches out there.

I agree with this. Rolex is boring. That is part of the appeal (constant designs for decades) and the turn-off. I think I will always have Rolex in my collection, but I have branched out to what others consider "lesser" brands which I really enjoy and I'm okay with that.

So much truth to that after you acquire a few.

OP I'm in the same boat. I have slowed way down and would consider another Rolex, but which is the question. In the meantime I've gathered 6 Tudors, 3 Moonwatches, a PAM, and Casio. As well as fixed some of the watches from my youth, 20's, 30's, 40's - that was super satisfying

OP. If you can look past the brand tinted goggles that many in the hobby have duct-taped to their heads you will have a much better time

I love this

Having a bunch of oyster cases with different coloured bezels can get boring.

I have a Speedmaster, recently got a Seamaster 2254, a Navitimer which I never thought I would enjoy as much as I do and a bunch of vintage Seikos I love dearly. Just be careful, Seiko can be very addictive. So many wonderful watches over the years. I have a soft spot for the 6139 chronos.

Absolutely! I went all the way from my old Submariner to one of these, skipping out all the Omegas, Tudors, Seikos etc. on the way! Couldn´t be happier

Be careful buying one of those watches. Solar power, time is set every night, GMT, chronograph.... When I wear mine it makes me wonder why I own anything else.

If you care about the monetary value then yeah you’re going backwards. You can buy a grand seiko for cheaper than a Rolex which is way more advanced as far as movement and finishing… it’s cheaper but going forward in many ways. Stop basing your position on the price and buy what you want to wear! That’s what watch collecting is about.

People who own Patek feel the same way about buying a Rolex… perspective

My two last watches were a Tudor BB 41mm and a Grand Seiko Diver. I’m enjoying both very much. Perhaps the only quirkiness here is the Grand Seiko bracelet philosophy, which leaves a bit to be desired.

I've been looking at both of the same brands lately as well. Not a step back at all. It's part of the hobby.

There's a tongue-in-cheek graph out there somewhere of watch collecting over time, and "Rolex only" is somewhere around the mid-point of the "journey" if I recall. As I say, all very tongue-in-cheek and stereotyping, but also with more than a kernel of truth to it for a lot of people.

There's a whole world of watches out there, and while I love my Rolexes and other "expensive" pieces, I also have plenty of diversity including ultra-cheap stuff as well. A watch of mine that gets worn quite a lot is my Casio MRW-200H-1BVES - a military-style, analogue, resin, non-G-Shock piece that cost me a whopping £19.99!

At the end of the day, I just like watches.

Agreed.
SKX is so very hard to go past
It took me years to get one and it didn't disappoint.
I have always had a Seiko since the mid 70's.

My yourney started with a Mickey mouse watch, then onto some other manual winder when i was a little fella.
Seiko has always been a part of my watch history with a good many Rolex which was focused on 4 and 5 digit EXP II s and those Rolex watches are all history now that i have settled on two 116660s.
I have occassionally had and will always have Omega with 2 permanent residents in the collection and will definately add another at some point and they don't in the slightest disapoint either and slightly better value than Rolex. IMO.
A GS that i have is magnificent.
The only disapointments were Swatch watches back in the day but they were legacies of being coupled up to a wonderful girl.

Diversity of anything that you enjoy is the goal

Also interested in G shock at some point.
Thanks to everybody who posted pics of theirs.
It's inspirational
