Price Range Difference: Ladies YM SS/PL 169622

HI ALL -

I've been doing a lot of research on this forum and other websites on sales for SS/PL YM 169622's. Most of them range from $3,800-7,000 depending on their year.

I'm just curious is there is some general standard for estimating the worth by it's serial Letter for purchasing?

(assumption: it comes with all paperwork & correct serial number, but maybe not the box...)

Any advice would be appreciated! THANKs in advance.

I have a feeling the serial letter can give you a guess on the approximate year but it is not accurate.

However, I am not 100% sure and other more knowledgeable members will help you :)

I can't give values, but I will say that the letter doesn't indicate its age exactly, as has been covered in many threads here. I have a brand new DateJust purchased in 2011 with a V number, for example.

Therefore, you can't compare a V with a G and expect differences on that basis only.

I get what you are saying, and it's a relevant example. So, technically was your watch "created/manufactured" in 2008, but wasn't sold till now? Did you pay higher price than if you had purchased a G. Ultimately where does the value on resale or first purchase come from? Demand?

The value comes from the MSRP at the time it was sold, and in the country of its sale, since prices differ globally. So, no matter the serial number, any watch sold in 2011 in the US is priced according to the Sept. 2010 price list. That's not true elsewhere in the world, because other locations have had increases more recently.

From what I've read, a serial number indicates only when the case was stamped, not indicating the date when the watch as a whole was fabricated. Rolex produces watches with several coexisting serial letters at the same time; they don't drop one before starting the next. I think you can do a search here for more on this issue.
