I am a new member, please help answer a question.
Hello,
I am a new member. I know little or noting about watches. I inherited a Tudor watch, its been in the family for 4 decades. But the dial looks wrong to me. Is this a fake from the 1960's? Was told it was bought in france. No steel band. serial number 756029. Specifically the word "220m" on the dial looks wrong. Shouldn't it be 200m? As 220m = 721ft, not 660. I have looked on the net, no other Tudor has 220m. Please tell me if its real or replica. Thanks you in advance. See picture. |

So... you're told it was fake in one thread, so you start another thread asking the same question?

I posted it in this thread as the other one (on "watch out") had 138 views without any responses. Not one. Figured maybe in the "new member" thread people might be more responsive to me as someone who just signed up. I really appreciate people's insite as I hate to be tricked, and a fake is nothing more than that. Aren't there laws against making fakes and shouldn't the FTC be strongly prosecuting those frauds? It a form of theft from the honest manufactures too.

yes fake. Which is interesting given that the previous owner always passed it off as authentic. The things you learn after people have passed away..... wonder how it will stand up to a direct hit with a sledgehammer tomorrow?

the thread "please verify if this is a real tudor watch" has pictures I took today of the serial number and model number too. Just before the sledgehammer came out. Hope it wasn't real.

really it was owned 40 years by the same person, unless someone switched watches with him at some point, he owns a lot of very expensive ones (with receipts and boxes and all records). so this was a surprise

I did get the watch going and the second hand seemed to move about 4 equal jumps as it moves to the next "second marker". Kinda weird looking. And the winder screw feel off. That's probably a dead giveaway? I never found any other Submariners with a "220m" on the dial. I like the style and look forward to getting a verified 100% correct one someday. Till then my Tissot works for me. Its real. Bought at a auth dealer.

Its really too bad there are fake watches. It ruins the fun of ownership and so many people must get ripped off each day buying fakes. I saw a bunch of fake Tudor Submariners like mine on Google searches. Prices $68 to $190. And the look so real to a guy like me that knows really nothing about watches. From now on I buy only at authorized dealers. That should be safe right?

Crown coming off isn't a "giveaway". Crowns can unscrew and come off of any watch, regardless of maker or price. Like they say in Breakfast Club..."The world is an imperfect place, screws fall out all the time".
