Good Afternoon Breitling People
I'm a vintage Rolex guy and I'm reaching out to you with the ever-popular "my buddy has a watch and wants to know if it's real" thread.
I know a few tricks to attempt to authenticate with the two attached pics, but I flat-out struck out...I can't even find any with reference to this limited edition batch (supposedly he has 99 out of 200). What do y'all think? I appreciate the help. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It is not a difficult piece to find on the web.
Here are a bunch of them. http://www.chrono24.com/breitling/ref-m13380.htm What glares at you is the numbers should be in white. Also note the hands. |

Thanks for the comments everyone. 123Blueface, I saw those on 24, as well as plenty on eBay. However, I didn't see any with black numbers, and I don't know how many dial variations this model has (maybe none, maybe lots?). To relate it to my chosen brand, Rolex may have 7 different dial variants for the same "base" dial/model over a number of years. The GMT 1675 for example, has many "different" dials with different font placement, different coronet shape, etc etc. However, the casual observer will see none of these variations. As you can tell, I'm a casual observer when it comes to Breitling. Lastly, I couldn't find anything that referenced a numbered limited edition run, like this one does (meaning, it being numbered 99/200). You'd think another one of the 200 would've been for sale at some point. In short, I wasn't sure if this is a limited run dial/model variant inside of a larger "limited edition" model, or just a fake. Hope that makes sense (sorry for long-winded response). Probably won't hear back until early next week. Will let you know. BTW, I did see one with darkened numbers, looked quite legit with all paperwork. It is a limited edition for sure. |

Looks like David SW had one listed a while ago.
Limited edition but white numbers. https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=233768 BTW, note "2000", not 200 |

Darkened numbers, limited edition of 250.
Note hands. That watch you posted does not look good. http://watchbase.com/breitling/avenger/m13380-ft |

I call BS on the hands and specially that bezel.
That coupled with nothing anywhere on a limited 200 run, smells bad. |

.......and one last point, all Breitling have consistent language on back, to include description of special edition.
This one has limited edition in English. If it's real, I nevertheless would not want it. |

Thank you for all of the comments. That's an especially interesting point regarding the language used on the casebacks. All signs seem to point to fake, but I'm surprised my search of the serial number didn't bring up numerous examples. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The version with the limited edition of 2,000 was the original blacksteel model and not this one. I believe, and suggest posting this over on breitling source as well, but this was a boutique LE model of 200 and could very well be authentic.

Thanks again to all for the input. I've been googling tonight and I finally found another 2 like it at timezone. One guy claims his is 28/200, and it's called the LE Blacksteel "code black" avenger. Maybe it is legit after all. Asking price a few years ago for that 28/200 used was $4250...have no idea what the market would've done in the meantime. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Looks like that "limited edition" writing is legit.
Only question I have on this watch is why are the hands so off as well as the bezel? Here is one I found with some really nice photos. May be the one you are referring to. http://forums.timezone.com/index.php...=7116005&rid=0 On the one you posted, seems like the 0, 15, 30 and 45 markers were shaved down for some reason. |

That's just wear on the case. It looks he was pretty rough on the one posted above.

Sounds like we've gone from definitely fake to possibly legit? I'll get him to send more pics. Thanks again to all for the comments. Keep them coming....

I don't know what your buddy is hoping on getting for the watch, but the wear on the watch certainly brings the desirability down for potential collectors. The pristine example I linked to has been sitting for a while at 3500 so in the condition that is shown for your buddy's watch he would probably be looking at more like 2k for his.

Thanks for the feedback. We live in a city with a naval air station so hopefully one of them will see his craigslist ad. To answer your question--even though I've explained condition to him, he thinks he'll get closer $$ to that pristine example due to its rarity. I tried to explain that rare doesn't equal valuable. Thank you guys for your help with this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
