is it true that the self winding mechanism on a rolex works best on your right wrist?
I read somewhere that the self winding mechanism on a rolex was meant to be on a right hand (wrist ) is this true ?
Link : http://www.europastar.com/europastar.../watchcare.jsp Look under the winding Q and A paragraph on winding , the guy states the watch is best on the right wrist. |

That is correct. I always insist on a 'left handed' watch when I buy one.

That's the first I've heard of this. Maybe I need a Orbita 'right handed' winder (smiles).

I wear it on the right because I'm left handed, but it keeps no better time when it's there than it does sitting on the shelf.

I heard that it winds best if you put it on a watchwinder and tie it to your wrist.

Actually, you all need to factor in the rotation of the earth and which way your are facing, coupled with the gravitational effect of the moon.

This reminds me a very true story at school. it was summer 1998 or 99 (rugby and football seasons had finished) and our school does an athletics competition. So twice a week everyone does track and field 'training'. During one training lesson , it was time to practice the the Javelin . Just before his turn, one boy says to the teacher - 'Sir, I am lefthanded', Without breaking stride the teacher says ' you should have told me earlier as now you will need to go back to equipment area and get yourself a left handed javelin, you will see them when you get there'. So off he went. It was only 10 minutes later when he returned empty handed and saw people laughing that it dawned on him that its a darn JAVELIN!!!

You are right. This is a little known fact, but it only applies in the Northern hemisphere. In the Southern hemisphere, you must wear the watch on your left hand for best results.
