Rolex as a Timepeice

I know I will get some heat for this but.... I never looked at Rolex as a "timepiece" like I looked at my PP/VC/IWC etc.... mostly as a daily casual and some "staples" for my collection (sub/GMT/Daytona), but I'm catching up on my mail after getting back from the Caribbean and got my "Love Package" from Hellmut Wempe and the new Rolex Cellini Moonphase in 18k rose gold just screamed at me..... I think its the 1st time ive been "in love" with a rolex..... I might have to put that deep blue on hold......but.... I am afraid that like my PP/VC and other beautiful dress ones.....it wont see the light of day as much as my "casual" rotation does.......:( but.... nicely done Rolex..... nicely done....

As opposed to the snide opening post?

Congrats it's a nice watch but your other Rolexes qualify as timepieces as well.

I don't think it was "snide", if you truly believe that a rolex movement or complication /heritage is the same as the above mentioned you are purely not realistic..... the rolex is a great watch with solid movement, but a Subaru is a great car, so is a Benz, but neither are Bentley, or Aston Martin right? Rolex has its place in many landmarks of modern watch creations no doubt...... if I hurt your feelings I do apologize ...

Saying a Rolex is anything less than perfection is like saying a another man's dog don't hunt. Dawn, under the oaks, 20 paces, your choice of weapons...

One of my bugbears is people using incomings to take a swipe at other watches. It is out of order. And now you are trying to defend yourself by talking about Subarus. See where this goes? You are new here, so in future just focus on your incoming watch and you will be alright.

I was apologizing for the possibility of hurting one's feelings (guess mire than one), not for what I typed.... I stand behind my words and opinions, opinions are like an arse..... We all have at least one... You just banged on Subarus... În my garage there is a Subaru parked next to all my tots, you know why? Cause my wife won't drive anything else.... So every two years she gets a new one... I learned not to argue and save my shekels, I'll give you another hint.... Her Subaru, in the winter snow perform better than any Benz, BMW or Escalade I own.... Yes, o am a knee member here, probably very active new member here, but does the fact I am new here makes my opinions not matter? Does it mean my watch knowledge or collection is inferior to yours? Or does it just means that we share different opinions, perspectives and tastes? Have a blessed rainy day out there in Scotland :)

The Cellini moon phase is the first Cellini I’ve ever given real thought to obtaining. Btw, I didn’t see anything snide with your post.

Nice Cellini! Good to see something different. I have high regard for Rolex time pieces and that is reflected in their value retention. Enjoy your new watch in good health. Cheers!

When I saw your thread title I expected it to be about the accuracy of a Rolex.

As "an instrument for telling time" I'm not a fan of the look of the Cellini due to its fussy dial.

How is it at accuracy?

As we all know.... U want accuracy... Get a Casio, :) I find rolex and their movements extremely well made as accurate as a mechanical will be.. I was more referring to complications in the movements:)

A great looking time piece. I have never considered one of these watches from Rolex. Not because they are not good looking but because this is not what Rolex does the best. If I was interested in this style of watch I would easily find a JLC, PP or VC.

Beauty all around, my problem with it is the price. For that money I’ve found watches I like more.

Traditionally, and Swiss watchmaking has a long trail of traditions, one of the traits of a high-end Swiss wrist watch is thin. A thin watch, case and movement, is a feat of the master watchmaker.

I love the idea of the Cellini. I want to buy one of the new mechanical Cellinis, but each time I try it on it reminds me of the James Cameron Sea Dweller. Way too bulky, thick and big around, not what a traditional high-end Swiss watch would be. Trendy and modern, yes. Like Hublot. But not classy.

I'll be the first to buy a Cellini the moment they trim it down to the right proportions. Right according to tradition. Swiss watchmaking tradition.

Enjoy your new watch in good health...!!!

I love your new watch. I think the only thing Rolex could’ve done to make that better is to put some Guilloche on it. Perhaps in a radial or concentric pattern. The Cellini was my first watch in the Rolex brand and it’s one I will never trade or flip.
