126710 and 16710 bezel comparison

I thought it would be interesting to compare the bezel colors of the 126710 in different lighting with the 16710. I used two different 16710’s to compare to a slightly different shade.

First: Here is a pic of my old 16710 and my 126710 both taken outdoors

Here’s one with an older insert from a fellow forum member, jhwarthog. Again, outside.

Lastly, here’s one with both watches taken indoors.

My interpretation having spent time with both is that the colors are a LOT closer than they may appear from other photos. I think that some indoor lighting does give the 126710 a more pastel appearance than it actually is.

For those of you who are on the fence about the 126710 because of the colors I’d encourage you to check one out in the flesh (if that’s even possible ).

I hope this helps!

Excellent comparisons. Hopefully I can see the new BLRO in person sooner than later. The colors are easily the largest deciding factor for me.

Thanks!

A suspicious person might think those colours have been 'played with'.

In the outside the difference is less accentuated

Pictures are too subjective, I would tell everyone to look @ the watches in person to make their own call. I've seen that ceramic insert many times in my life and while it will look decently blue/red in some lights....there are also a lot of situations where it'll look purple/pink.

Agree that pics are subjective. I think a lot of people have written this one off without ever seeing it. I almost did myself and I’m really really glad I didn’t.

OP - you've demonstrated how the Human eye was conceived to view colour in daylight. Therefore judgement should always occur outside, not inside under artificial lighting.

I very much agree. It seems like there was a disproportionate amount of pics early on in terrible indoor lighting. I thought I’d shed some “light” on the subject

Wonderful comparison. Just another example of how dynamic Rolex ceramic bezels are. My BLNR would fluctuate from a smurf blue to looking all black in certain angles and lighting.
The BLRO is a very beautiful watch, whether it looks purple pink lilac or red, love all the variations.

This has been my working theory for some time now, but without a 126710 to help test said theory

In certain light, the bezel of my 16710 appears a gorgeous blue. Other times, like right now at my computer, it appears quite purple. A very dynamic insert

Good pics. Thanks for sharing!

I like chocolate chip cookies better than oatmeal cookies.

OP. This is a great thread. Thank you.

Ive looked at these colors a hundred different ways. Im starting to think Rolex is just genius all around. Ceramic bezels change in the light. That’s clearly something they needed to contend with.

Incredible that they got it as good as they did.

Completely agree. The BLRO's bezel colors are the most dynamic I've seen in a Rolex. This thread in my opinion proves it. It looks comparable in color to the older GMTs and to me I like that it looks purple pink or what ever other weird color it displays. Ultimately it's red and blue.

What I don't understand is the constant this is better than that. It seems there is a group of 16710 owners that just have to take a dig at the 126710 seemingly to justify there choice. Imo, they are all just options, what ever you have, it's cool.
I like the SubC....I think to me it's a better watch than the older generation, I just prefer it. But I saw a coworker with 16610 form the 80's and I was very excited to see it and appreciated coming in contact with it in the wild. All Rolex are cool.

Pick the one you want, enjoy.

126710 and 16710 bezel comparison

Great topic. Yep. 6-digit BLRO colors are different than 5-digit and 4-digit. And each light source makes it look varied. Here is a shot of mine with balanced, studio natural-light bulbs. Don’t expect them to look the same.

Sometimes the ceramic inserts look pink and purple, based on light source.

In the first 2 pics, i like the 6 digit colours more, but not in the last one. Overall, the 5 digit colours work better.

Awesome thread, thank you! It's definitely making me take another look at the 126710, something my wife isn't too happy about.

Nice watches gentlemen. I think the new GMT BLRO looks great. As do the the older five digits. If I had to choose just one, it would definitely be the ceramic. I just prefer the look of the Trip-Lock crown, ceramic bezel, more masculine shoulders, and the way the bezel fits the case. My eyes just don't find the way the older version's bezels are too big for the case to be pleasing in terms of symmetry.

The colors, like opinions, are subjective. Personally, I love the WG BLRO and SS BLRO bezels and don't care if some people pronounce them as "Pink", "Purple", etc. My 126710 cannot get here soon enough!

Thanks for the comparison! Is it the stainless steel that makes the bezel look different from the WG version?
