Platinum Daytona Reference 116506

Can’t find really a lot threads about this beauty.

Understatement pure or overpriced poser watch?

For me it is the first, pure understatement and the most beautiful Daytona at the moment. The Ice Blue Dial speaks for itself.

What are your opinions? Hot or not?

Is it still the first dial/edition so a MKI or are there any changes?

Pictures and opinions are more then welcome...

It’s an absolute beauty! Gorgeous dial, pure class! There’s only been one dial variation that I know of....same watch with same color dial, diamond markers and ice blue sub-dials.

Like many watches discussed on this site - this one too has a nick name - not endorsing it but search “platona” - lots of threads.

Personally-I love the watch - but I’m biased.

It's not really a nickname, just a shortening, much like Sub. The brown did inspire a similar nickname when it first came out but that was quickly poo pooed.

"Pure understatement"? You may need to check that in a dictionary.

It's a chunk of platinum on your wrist with an ice blue dial which can't possibly be mistaken for a lower end rolex of the same (expensive) Daytona line. OK, so it's not dripping with diamonds and other terrible bling bling cliches, but that doesn't mean it's understated, let alone 'pure' understated.

The model has been out five years. You don't see many, because people who travel in 'normal people' circles, don't spend that much money on a watch, but that doesn't mean it's flying under the radar.

Personally I much prefer the 116519LN, which is attractive but (a) more understated -it's a $30k watch which doesn't have a flashy/ shiny precious metal bracelet catching the sunlight; and (b) more sporty and masculine looking - I'm only 40-ish and not really ready to move to a delicate little retirement village where we'll watch the world go by while timing it with a luxury sports watch in some sort of metallic pastel baby-blue.

Still, takes all sorts to make a world.

Even 98% of people outside of this forum wouldn't know what it is. Not even that it's a Rolex, because it's not a Gold DD or a sub. let alone the details of the ice blue speaking for the case material.

So, i'd agree with understatement. Fully.

Gorgeous watch. A bit heavy, but gorgeous and under the radar.

The platinum Daytona is totally under the radar to non-WISes. The majority who even notice your watch (far and few between) will think it’s some Michael Kors watch. If someone’s astute enough to realize it’s a Rolex, it would require familiarity with the brand to understand it’s solid platinum and not stainless steel.

A gold Breitling is more flashy than a platinum Daytona.

I agree with one part of the above -

"Still, takes all sorts to make a world."

As a guy who and travels in "normal people" circles while happily wearing my apparently not "masculine looking" sports watch with "some sort of metallic pastel baby-blue" dial I'll respectfully disagree with the rest.

Ummmm 99.9% of the population will mistake it for stainless. Perhaps more. Gorgeous piece but I’ll stick to Everose.

Lots of threads on this one. In short, it’s a great watch.

I like the platinum Daytona, but I still don’t understand why they made the dial/sub dials brown.

Agreed. The brown on this watch is a deal breaker for me. Brown is just not my color.

Diamond marker version has the blue sub dials!!! I think it's easier to read.

Go for it. Gorgeous piece. Check upon baguette dial, it is absolutly stunning when seen alive and still remains understated. Bear in mind prices climbed up by around 5-7000 eur since beginning of 2018. Brown subdial used to be around 45 k in Eur on Chrono24. Now it is north of 50 k.
