Would you make this trade? BLNR content.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my 116710BLNR, and have had it since 2014. I was lucky enough to pay below retail at the time.

With how crazy pricing has gotten, I’m scratching my head and actually considering selling, and purchasing two pieces with the proceeds. Pics of the two potential replacements below - I’ve done the math and it would be a pretty even trade all said and done.

Curious to know, would you make that trade? Or do you think it’s crazy talk to consider parting with the original Batman? (Pics are not mine)

Then if you really do, nothing else you say after this sentence really matters.

But I could learn to love another

My thought process is two new loves for the price of one...

I own a BLNR so I am bias.

But I also own a kermit. Aluminium bezel models don't have the "wearability" that the ceramics do. It's stressful because they're easy to scratch and dent and they're not really fixable anymore. I cant go to Rolex and get a flat 4 bezel for my kermit. You may hate the stress of just wearing the watch. The other oyster perpetual is just a plane jane to me. Keep the BLNR, save up for what you really want.

Yes, don't sell because of the price.

I’d personally get more use out of the BLNR than those two, but i don’t hate the trade.

If you’ve kind of lost love for the BLNR it makes sense to strike while the iron is hot and get the most out of the value.

Sure for those two I would consider it. You’d still a great GMT (arguably a better one) and a nice MG. MGs feel great on.

Would you make this trade? BLNR content.

Seems like the money got you more than the love for the BLNR!

Let’s put it this way, my BLNR is also one I was lucky to get at MSRP in 2018 and knowing full well I can get more than double what I paid for it I would not consider sell it! That’s because my love for the BLNR is greater than the money / trade I know I can get.

Is it a crazy trade - no but I wouldn’t do it!

I’ve considered adding a Pepsi but not at the expense of my BLNR. It is one of the nicest looking modern Rolexes, IMO.

It's the love of watches that got me! I wish I could have them all, but that's not possible, so having two different pieces I could also love is tempting and would add more variety to my collection.

But of course I would miss my BLNR, just don't know right now if I'd be happy with the trade a few years down the road. It's a tough call as I know full well I'd never acquire another BLNR again.

Don’t worry about it. You’re staying loyal to the GMT. Just in a purer form - tracing the roots back. The MG is an added bonus. Relax and enjoy!

My thinking exactly! The second watch is not a MG, it's the new OP39.

Oh sorry. Well regardless, the important bit is you have a 16710! Anything else is a bonus. At least that’s how I see it.

Like any other modern Rolex, the BLNR is mass produced. Certainly you can acquire one later if you want.

I would consider the trade. GMT for a GMT plus a bonus daily wear do anything watch. The white OP39 is a nice piece in person.
Good luck.
Peace!

Yup, can totally understand that.
More is fun BUT more important to me is really, really loving what I get. I have yet to ever imagine selling or trading a watch. Prefer to bite the bullet, save, and eventually add to collection.

Sounds like it will really hurt getting rid of that BLNR. Having one myself, can understand why. Keep it, save money and add another later.

This is good advice. It would be hard to get rid of the BLNR, no doubt. I've made a promise to myself that if I want a new watch, something in my collection has to go. Getting rid of the BLNR is attractive ONLY because it can afford me 2 watches

However, what might be the best solution is to hang onto the BLRN, flip my JLC and pick up the white dial OP39. I'm obsessed with this watch as of late.

So you can sell your BLNR and get a BLRO and an OP? It’s obviously a wash on the GMTs as long as the conditions of both watches are similar and have the same accessories (b&p). Do you like the BLRO as much?

If you have any emotional attachment to your Batman, don’t do it, but if it has no significant meaning I’d go for it in a heart beat. You end up with the same functionality of the GMT, a little new color on the wrist, and more options when you are in the mood for something else!

Just look at that Batman twice because it will be a while before the craziness ends and you can get another one at a reasonable price!

That's one of those theories that looks good on paper but doesn't work in real life.

If you really do love your BLNR, then you'll miss it when it's gone and end up paying a lot more to get it back. I've been there, unfortunately.

But hey, do what makes you happy.

So initially I was after a Harrods black bay (green) as a daily and then a Daytona C. Anyway, an odd turn of events and I managed to pick up both the white and black Daytona Cs for retail, jumping the queues ;) I’ve posted about that story on a separate thread.

But my name is still on the waiting list for the black bay! And.... I still have the BLNR!

Yes to the trade but it would have to be the Explorer instead of the OP for me.

I wouldn’t do this trade because the resale value of the pieces you are considering will be less than the value of the BLNR if you want to flip them later. I would use the BLNR toward something that’s a bit more of a stretch

I’d sell the blnr now and pick up two, probably not those two though. Regardless I see your thought processes and dont disagree with it at all
