Any future for PM Subs?

I have a 16618 incoming (always wanted the PM Sub and finally pulled the trigger) and just curious at to why the PM Subs don’t seem to get much love? They are hovering around the $18K range (+/-) and don’t seem to have any future over that...

Is it because the Sub is so classic in SS? I have an LV Sub and understand the appeal, but in YG it just seems like the pinnacle of the model.

What am I missing?

The pm subs get a lot of love. Mostly 6 digits. Also they are a bit pricey for some

Yellow Gold doesn't look good on everyone's skin...

You can wear a SS model anywhere... a YG not so much... In many cases it's gaudy or doesn't fit in.

If you like the 5 digits better than the 6 digits then you're getting your watch $10k cheaper than the corresponding 6 digit, so you have every reason to be happy!

That was part of the choice...I paid under $17K for the 5 digit and the cheapest 6 digits are $24K (smurf). With multiple watches in rotation (and I wear them) the $7K difference goes towards the next purchase (DSSD)

You can wear YG any were unless it is an unsafe environment. In that case, why are you there in the first place. Embrace the gold.

Love the PM black. Love isn't measured by "market value."

Yes, Bacciagalupe the cat likes the watch. I paid $0 for him and love him dearly. Sometimes you get a good deal.

The 5 digit gold subs are a pretty good deal these days. Basically the price of the SS sub plus the value of the gold. I've thought about one but I am a one watch guy and not sure I would want to wear gold everywhere. But they sure are good looking.

I'm looking for a 16618 at the moment myself.
From what I have seen $18k is the lower end of the scale. For example typing in "Rolex 16618" into chrono24 brings up 154 results, filtered to $19K (to allow for a discount) brings only 9 results (none of which I would buy).
If you paid around $17k for the one pictured I would say you have done very well, any tips appreciated.

The 16618 blue is one of my all-time favorites. But its market is definitely smaller. You shouldn't care. Enjoy that great incoming :)

Any future? Gold watches are as popular as they’ve ever been.

Wear my 116618 every day. There is plenty of love for these watches here. The price point makes it prohibitive for some.

Some folks love the “feeling” on the wrist and knowing that the watch is made in precious metal gold. To others stainless steel is the perfect material as Wilsdorf intended. No wrong answer but SS will always be the classic choice.

There’s quite a bit of love for PM Subs - they are great watches. PM is just for some and not for others, for a multitude of reasons.

It's just a matter of taste. Still see them now and then in the wild. But it seems they are not as populair as they used to be. At least in my environment it feels as if they were sold more 15 years ago. I see a lot of people going to a Day-Date now if they can afford one pm model.

Daydates are very affordable when you cross shop with 2nd hand 116610 and GMT C models.

18238 (dbl quick) and 18038 (single quick) can be had for 10-12k.

they get plenty of love, SS just get more. PM Subs are certainly not criticized around here, perhaps just not quite as popular. the 16618 is gorgeous. Congrats!

People keep buying them so Rolex will keep making them, I assume. I have some friends that will only wear a gold watch and Subs are as popular with them as other PM watches that they own, but Rolex and non-Rolex
