A moment of madness. Please tell me I'm forgiven !

First of all I have 3 nice watches.

Tudor Pelagos - weekend warrior
Rolex ND sub - nice weekend wearer
Rolex BLNR (oyster) - Special events

I've always looked after my watches but said if they scratch or damage I'm not too worried as I purchase them to wear and keep and not investments.

I was unloading the dishwasher the other day wearing my ND sub and managed to put a nice hairline on the polished side face (nearly the whole length). Without thinking I went straight on amazon and got a cape cod cloth and polished it out (still slightly visible).

My question to you all... Am i still a purist?

You know what man...I banged up a couple Rolexes doing that, too. I have big marble countertops in the kitchen and smacked two of mine unloading the dishwasher.

I'll just leave it alone and not goto town with the Cod cloth.

It’s your watch my friend and you have every right to do what you want with it.

It’s not a big deal anyway. Not like cape cod can cause significant damage or anything. I just don’t do it because it’s a waste of time to me.

You can not avoid scratches on your watch anymore than you can avoid getting a scratch scrape or mosquito bite on yourself.

I got two good nicks to my Sub’s insert when I was at my daughters school and saw a stray soccer ball from a group of 5 yr olds come rolling by. So instead of just picking it up and tossing it back onto the field I for some inexplicable reason decided to stop the ball with my foot and tried to kick it back to them.

Well I somehow wound up on top of the ball like a circus seal and then did a full mid air somersault landing flat on my back and slamming my watch into the blacktop.

Besides the damage to my watch, head and arms I had the embarrassment of the cutest little girl tell me I need to practice more and that I should go see the nurse so I don’t get an infection.

I got over the humiliation and the nicks pretty quick and now I just smile when I notice them.

I have a similar situation and before I get the cape cod, I’d like to know the answer to this as well.

Just a citizen pilot thing.

I’m a design/manufacturing engineer so some of my time at work is spent in machine shops. Definitely don’t want a nice one on in there!

So I got a pretty gnarly scratch on the clasp on both my DJ41 and EXPII. For those I broke out the Cape Cod and now they are barely visible unless you’re really looking for them. The rest of the “small” scratches don’t bother me as I know they are inevitable and will always come back so I don’t to try and remove them.

Did the exact same scratch on a deep sea years ago. Ended up selling it because it couldn’t be polished out. My advice is to move it now.

Wear your watch, don't let it wear you! Its a Rolex, after all, not some namby pamby Vacheron Constantin or JLC (flame suit on - I'm just kidding. Sort of). It can take more abuse than you can, and even with the scratches probably still look better. ;-P

I honestly can not imagine how stressful your life is. You work hard to spend your hard earned money only to be stressed about something you have no intention of ever selling. By no means am I saying that you shouldn't take good care of things you own but I think this is excessive. I think wear it and enjoy it and come service time will be the best time to get all the scratches out.

This is all I need to know to say no. Weekend and special event watches. These should all be worn daily! Except the Tudor, which should only be worn when working on the house or car or another activity where it will surely be damaged.
