Need advice. BLNR or SS SkyD black dial.

I just bought the 116710 from a buddy for close to retail. A buddy of mine wants to sell me his black SkyD but the catch is that I would need to flip him the BLNR. I would need to add 5k cash to the deal as well. I will have just under 16k in the SkyD.

I have liked that watch since it came out but my focus of my collection and taste have been leaning towards sports watches. Any advice would be appreciated. Both watches are 2017 and the SKYD is mint. Both full complete sets.

I would prefer the sky dweller all day every day.

Have you tried it on?

Think you’re golden either way. I’d probably go SkyDweller myself. I have the new Batman and a white dial SkyDweller and haven’t taken the SkyD off. A little under $16k is pretty much retail plus tax. And it sounds like you’re about that invested in the Batman too.

I wouldn’t - the value of your watch keeps going up. Also - I just like the gmt better. What do you want out of a watch? Your watch is more sporty, but can dress up. His watch is more dressy, but can dress down.

I'd keep the GMT for now and wait for a Sky Dweller. I love both but the SkyD is probably easier to come by.

You could pull off the Sky D. I’m not sure how I feel about the $5K. The Black dial is starting to go up in price but I don’t think $5K is the right number.

Are you close with any TS? If so you could ask what market value is for both watches and then figure out a fair number.

But for what it’s worth I would go Sky Dweller all day. I really like mine.

The SkyD is $19k. That’s what he wants for it. But since I bought the Batman for a good price he is basically giving me $14k trade value for it. So I’ll only have $16k out of pocket for the SkyD not $19k.

I get where you’re coming from. But hear me out.

If he’s valuing his at $19, which is full price, then yours should be valued at $15,750. Regardless of what you paid for it.

But at the end of the day if you’re both happy then that’s truly all that matters.

I contacted a few grey dealer and I asked them what they would buy it for In case I didn’t see it as a keeper. I was surprised how low the offer was. I thought that these were hard to get. The buy price was barely retail plus tax. Not that its all that matters but I would lose a few thousand minimum it seems.

For your BLNR? That’s surprising. Given that your trade seems like a good deal for both parties if that’s the route you want to take.
Let us know what you decide to do.

What’s the power reserve on the SkyD? It’s the new movement right? I know you own it so I really appreciate your personal feedback on the SKYD. Could you daily it or is it more of a rotation piece? I prefer to wear one watch only during this Covid thing.

72 hour power reserve.

It definitely could be a daily but if you have multiple watches in your collection it won’t be a daily driver in my opinion. I love the look. Love the dial. Love the calendar complication. The fluted bezel is a real eye catcher as you know. It’s beautiful and will get your attention but some days I want to wear something under the radar.

In my opinion it would be a great addition to your collection.

If the sky fits your wrist, it should be a done deal! The sky is in a league of it's own. Do it!!

Am not a big fan of the blue/black bezel on the GMT. So the choice for me is easy - SkyD.

72 hour power reserve.... I wear my Sky Dweller as a daily and it's not a watch I baby at all. The fact it has a couple of very useful complications is something that is pleasurable. Despite what others may say, I think it's a bit under the radar in that respect - just looks like a Rolex, but not a complicated one.

I have the SD43. Sub and hulk. The BLNR is the only GMT I have and the only one he is interested in trading for. I will be getting the SKYD for basically retail and tax. I have a 7.25 inch wrist I have tried on the SKYD and it wears well. I used to lust for it but back then I was more into DJ then SS sports my collection has weighed more towards the SS sports now. My style is casual but I do like a flashy watch from time to time.

You just answered your own question, that is why I asked about sport vs dress. I have a DJ with my sub. I like sport models more so I am always drawn to my sub. If I had to have one, would always pick the sub. I know the sky-dweller is bigger and has a fantastic movement, but it is a lot of money for a watch you just want to be flashy with from time to time. I would keep the Batman and spend less money on a datejust. Maybe trade in the sd43 or sub for a datejust.

At the rate you are going you will lust for a GMT sooner or later if you trade it (you won't feel your collection is complete without a GMT on oyster BLNR). Keep the Batman and get the Black Sky from an AD (14,800), they are not hard to get. Wait it out. You will be getting a new watch and some more purchase history. If your friend is willing to trade for the black sub then I would go for it.

I am an unabashed fan of sport watches, so I would go with the BLNR if given a choice between it and a SkyD.

The SkyD is an interesting and unique watch, but to my eye it has a bit of the old DJII and 116234-ish design language — thicker with wider lugs. At some point you have to think Rolex would redesign it slightly to be more in line with the DJ41 or new DJ36 126234 — once that happens I’d be more intrigued.

BLNR; i own it and my boss has the SD in black and he is envious of mine.

I also have a DJ41 and to be honest, IMHO, the SD seems like a glorified, pretentious DJ.

Just my opinion of course, yours may vary accordingly.

I'd keep the Batman, especially if it's on the oyster bracelet. It's a keeper and for me a better looking watch than the SkyD.

Tough one. I'd go with the sky dweller by a hair. If it were blue, I'd be 100%. You can't go wrong with either.

I have both, skydweller and Batman. It’s uptoyou what you like more, if u can spend the extra money or not and your wrist size. Me personally, if I could only keep one, it would be the skydweller. It is an amazing watch.
