DD40 vs YG Sub vs GMT CHNR
I currently have a Rolex 16013 (YG and SS), an Omega Aqua Terra 2012 Ryder Cup, and a Tag Heuer Carrera Calibre 5. I have finally secured enough funds and most importantly, received permission from my wife, to add another piece to my collection. My interests are: DD40 in Yellow with Silver Romans or DD40 in Rose with Chocolate or Sundust Romans, GMT CHNR, or Submariner in Yellow with blue dial.
I have been to AD’s in Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, Louisville, and Indianapolis. I have tried on the DD40 in YG and a Sub with a black dial and the old movement. The others I will have to wait or purchase from one of the fine individuals on here. This will be my first and most likely, my only PM piece. I am hoping some of you can help sway my decision. I wear a suit only a few times a year. My attire is mainly business casual or casual. All three are amazing pieces. I thought this would be an easy decision, but I am not able to make up my mind. If anyone can offer some insight, it would be greatly appreciated. |

D-D in Rose Gold with Chocolate or Olive dial is the most gorgeous timepiece. You can wear in every occasion.
Try to get it from boutique/AD, you might have to wait a bit, don't pay premium on gray.

First reaction is a coin flip between the YG sub and YG DD. Both are beautiful, statement pieces, and can be worn with your described attire.
If you have no plans of ever moving your DJ, or you’re going to continue to wear it often in rotation....I’d go with the sub, as I think the DJ & DD run close together, appearance wise, when you have them both in a collection and wear each equally. The sub is a whole different look vs your DJ. It’s a very difficult choice for me personally, as I think both are absolutely amazing. But, based on the assumption you’re keeping and wearing your DJ, I’d go YG sub. |

I am a huge fan of the DD and have owned many over the years but I always move away based on the lack of adjustability of the bracelet. The only option is to add or subtract links and even then you can be left with less than a perfect fit. For the money in a PM watch it should fit better and adjustments should be better than offered in the DD. The Submariner in YG or WG with the Glide Lock clasp work great and can be dressed up or down. The YG Blue dial version is stunning and the Black dial is very classy looking. The Submariner is my answer and I own a YG and a WG version.

Congrats on that wife approval (and having the funds)!
I went through the same conundrum, DD40 vs gold Sub, and it was really about what fit in my collection, as well as the beauty of the DD40. Having the Hulk and GMT, I just felt that the gold Sub wore similarly, color notwithstanding. That DD40 in chocolate just hits differently. Can't go wrong with any choice though!

While I love all of those choices, if you think this is going to be a one and only PM, then it has to be the sub. Glidelock and stunning good looks...hard to beat.
If you're more into the DD tho, drop me a PM. I know where there's one at an AD just waiting for a new home. |

Thanks everyone for the input. This is a shot of the YG DD from a few days ago. I wish I could find a RG DD to compare. The Sub was an absolute stunner as well. I have a feeling it will be a long wait for one of the new releases with a blue dial.

Yg DD. I have the exact watch you want (silver dial, romans) and am Over the moon happy with it.

I went with the one that best matched my lifestyle. I travel a lot, with across timezones, and am simply a sucker for the GMT complication. Hard to go wrong, though, with any of the options you’ve presented...

Can't go wrong imo with any of those. Depends on which function and which color gold you want to go with.

I see you are in Cincinnati, the city of sun, so I'd go for the YG Sub.

I would tend to go with the icon, the Day Date. I think the look, feel, and versatility are unmatched. I also like how the president bracelet hides most hairlines and always looks new.
I am also a HUGE fan of the RG GMT. If you can pull that off with your skin tone, I think it is a wonderful option as well as I tend to use the GMT complication the most of all my timepieces (I have the TT, not the full gold). Let us know what you pick, you really cannot go wrong with any of these PM hitters. |

For me it’s between the YG DD and RG GMT.
The sub is beautiful, but that blue and gold calls a lot of attention.

Love the CHNR. But if a DD40 is one of the options, I'd go DD40 Rose.
Have fun! |

DD40. Are you set on romans? The RG olive green and sundust stripe dials are my personal faves.
All of your options are really nice. |

If you are keeping the Datejust go for the sub! Ive owned both the DD and Sub and prefer the sub for daily wear. Either one is a fantastic choice though. Post pics when you make the acquisition.
