OK, lesson learnt for the day - NEVER scrub my Rolex again while standing in the shower!

Dropped the poor bugger and it landed on the edge of the case:

Thankfully, it's not very visible when I actually wear it - thank God it didn't land on the crystal side.

Anybody got any ideas on how much of this damage RSC would be able to fix up?

Next time I'm doing it in the sink - at leats it won't have that far to fall!

James that looks bad and right on the edge too,might have
been better crystal side,they can be easily replaced.Most
of watch accidents seem to be on hard bathroom floors,will be
very hard to polish that ding out.

It's a shame that it's damaged beond repair, James. There's really only one solution. You need to pack it up and send it to Rocky's Rolex disposal service. PM me for the address. I'll be happy to help you get rid of that worthless piece of crap.

I'm truly sorry and hurt that something like that should happen to your SD; but what really surprises me is the severity of the damage considering it just fell a few feet onto a tiled floor.

I mean, that's like extremely hard 904L steel which had at some stage required an immense pressure of 60 tons to knock it out of a sheet of the same quality steel.

Then how on earth can a mere few feet do that much damage??

This is something to seriously think about. I would never expect a niché to be carved out of the solid steel with such a small drop, irrespective of the angle or whatever. I could accept a scratch or two; but certainly not a dent to that degree!!!

OUCH! But I say just let it be. Shit happens and it can happen to any of us. I put my SD on the roof of my car only to have it fall onto asphalt seconds later. Luckily for me not a single scratch. It fell flat on the crystal and for some reason the bracelet was fine.

Ouch, sorry to hear about your watch. Just unlucky on how it landed I guess.

But on a sports model, dings are scratches give it character and make the watch yours. On the dress watches DJs or DDs, I like the new polished look.

To me the important thing is that one wears the watch and that it doesn't just sit in a safe for special occassions.

Aaaaiiieeeeee!!!!! is right!

I may be talking through my hat, but I wonder if a highly-skilled TIG welder could fill that dent back up. Check with a gunsmith experienced in building custom rifles (not the local 'butcher'); they often have experience using TIG to fill small holes in steel (usually chrome-molybdenum, but 904L might not be too different).

James - too bad about the ding, but I wouldn't sweat it. There is no way to polish this out completely (without changing the shape of the case in this area), as metal had been displaced. However, I would think that the look of the dent could be lessened (smoothed out) somewhat by polishing. It's not in a location that would concern me personally, so I would opt for polishing now, and then maybe getting the case replaced when it needs servicing (depending on the cost).

You can be sure that the watch is actually quite rugged. A drop significant enough to cause this kind of damage, and no issues with timekeeping, etc. - that's one rugged watch for sure!

Oh yes - mbogo - the idea of TIG welding the dent would be a no go in my mind. Too many issues with heat on the case for my liking. It would require taking the movement out in my opinion (to be safe) and I would be concerned about heat distorting the case to the point the threads on the screw back might not work properly leading to water infiltration (or damage to the valve as it is so close to the area being welded). Also, getting the filler metal to match the case in terms of colour might be tough. Far too many issues for me to consider such an option.....maybe if the case was a total write off and I was going to replace it anyway.
