rolex two tone?

Fairly new to rolex. I have an opportunity to purchase a tt rolex sub 126613LN from ad. Is this a good buy? I hear that two tones are not as good. what is so bad about two tones?
Seems like it is hard to get any rolex nowadays. Is this piece easy to come by?

I would only buy if you like it. 5 years from now it will likely hold its value.

It's a terrible investment.

If you really like it though you should buy it as the Sub is an awesome watch.

Buy a watch because you want to love wearing it, not because of investment potential.
In fact, investment talk is against the forum rules.

I don't think OP is talking about investment; he wonders how much the Submariner will cost him.

We all know that steel sports Rolexes are free. He was simply wondering if it was the same with two-tone.

At no part of the OPs post did he mention investment. Come down off the forum high horse and stop unnecessarily bashing.

Is it a good buy?

Well it’s not as sought after as the SS Sub, because it’s traditionally seen as a tool divers watch. However, in this day and age a Rolex is probably rarely bought as a diving instrument and more so as a luxury timepiece that serves as jewellery.

So taking from this a further “enhancement” would be TT and then full gold.

But TT kinda holds a no mans land position as the SS has held to its “roots” of professional timepiece and the all gold holds true luxury status.

It all comes down to perception really. If you like. You buy. If you don’t then don’t.

Asking if it’s worth it, well in other words
Will you recoup your money? Past and current market trends would suggest you probably break even on TT. But the future may be different. Gold may get to such a high value that it’s used less and less, pushing prices of TT up. Who knows.

You’ll probably not lose and you probably won’t gain. Don’t treat like an asset and only spend what you’re comfortable to not think about.

Buy it if you love it. It will serve well as a watch.

Will you enjoy wearing it?
Can you afford it (without “missing” the $)?
Is this a substitute for the watch you actually want?

If the answers are yes/yes/no, you should get it!

I don’t think it is EASY, it might be easier then Stainless Steel models, but like everyone on here has pointed out, if you like the watch and will wear it proudly, buy it. If you are buying this in the hopes you can flip it and make a profit, you are buying it for the wrong reason.

If you end up getting it, be sure to start a thread on here and post pics!

I would not even know how to sell a watch. Getting close to retirement and want to wear it. But eventually everything must be passed away and on, I Just like to think about the next generation.

Sounds like you're looking for validation to purchase based on how scarce it is than actually wanting the watch for what it is. If you want it, get it; if you don't, then pass on it and let the AD sell it to someone else.

That being said, a TT sub takes some time to get (think weeks to a few months), but generally isn't a terribly long wait.

Does it matter if it's "easy to come by"?

Unless you're a world-class, infallible psychic, you should only buy any watch if you like it and want to own/wear it. Buying for any other reason is a potential recipe for disaster.

Only you know if you want it. We won't advise on hype and investment. I have a TT sub and love it. I bought it because of that very reason.

Heck yea! I’d do it. There’s nothing wrong with a TT watch in itself, just matter of taste. I believe they’re great looking. Enjoy it and retirement!

This is a good answer.

OP didn't even ask about investment beyond asking if two tone is a "good buy", i.e. good value, yet people are getting so (understandably, I guess) jaded that everyone seems to think this is an investment thread, and throwing out accusations left and right.

Look up what they are going for on some grey sites like davidsw. That will give you an idea if it is a good buy.. but only pick it up if you really like it… SS are more sought after mainly because the price point is cheaper compared to TT or PM… and some just don’t like the look of TT PM

Should you buy this watch? No idea but here are some suggestions.

Do you like the watch?

Do you have the funds to buy the watch?

Do you want to buy the watch?

Watches are bought or at least should be bought on the basis that the owner likes the watch, wants to wear the watch and can afford to buy the watch. Is this watch easy to get, any Rolex is difficult to get if it is not in the display cabinet at the AD, if you like that DJ in the window then a Rolex is easy to get, if you have to wait 5 years or more to get that Daytona then no its not easy to get a Rolex.

Never buy a watch based on someone else's opinion, by all means ask for pictures of the watch on other peoples wrist to get an idea of how it looks.

Investments, the forum doesn't discuss what a watch is worth, that is something that you would have to establish away from TRF.

You tell us. What do you think is so bad about them?

I like TT watches. I don't care what other people like or dislike, they are not buying my watches.

Why would I care? Why would you? Enjoy your watch.

Congratulations on a superb acquisition.

What makes you think TT is not a good buy? If you love it on your wrist, it can be the best watch in the world! Try it on, let it speak to you and take it from there. If you need to sell it later for any reason, you won't get all your money back, but you will have enjoyed a fantastic piece. and that's priceless to me.

What do you mean not as good? It’s the same standard.

Issue with TT in my experience is you quickly get bored of it and yearn for a singular metal.

Also, as I said in another post, the issue I have with oyster bracelet in TT is that you have two different colors and texture. Bracelet should be all satin brushed and would look much better. I noticed this while owning 126613LB, that I found the underside of the bracelet much more beautiful than the upper side, because the underside is actually brushed.

My OP was a bad "investment" when I fell in love with it. Now I have a watch that I love and I think it's doing ok these days.

As everyone says, you buy it if you want to wear it. I spoke to a number of AD's in Scotland and was advised that they were not taking any mores names for s/s Sub's. I have my name down for a Rolsor (2 tone) Sub no date with an AD. I hope to hear in around a year.

In the interim i bought an older no date s/s sub and love it. My wife chose a Rolsor Explorer which we picked up a couple of days ago from the AD and it is absolutely gorgeous. It is literally a stunning watch, I think they may have changed the metallurgy of the gold as back in the day Rolsor could be quite garish. Not now, styles change. Micro tweaks are made and you end up with a completely different look.

My advice to you is to buy the watch offered, its a beautiful bit of kit, enjoy wearing it. I have mild envy as i've a bit of a wait. Well done Sir! :)

The “no date” Sub doesn’t come in TT. Only SS.
