Chocolate Daytona - Which Flavour … ?
Been seriously considering getting my first ‘Big Boy’ watch.
By that I mean my first full PM piece. Traditionally I’ve always been a SS dive watch fan boy - not just Rolex, but also Omega & Panerai. I’ve also dabbled with TT - previously had a bluesy & currently have a CHNR. Just lately though, I’ve been really struck by the idea of owning a full RG Daytona. Not sure where it’s come from, never been bothered previously about full PM - or even Daytona’s in general for that matter. Nothing against the Daytona, just never really gravitated towards it before. Maybe it’s an age thing with the PM or maybe it’s just the frustration of the lack of SS pieces at the AD that’s made me think it might be easier to source a piece in the next level up the food chain, who knows?? Anyway, I digress, back to business. So, recently, for whatever reason, I’ve really been drawn to the idea of having a RG piece and have narrowed it down to the Chocolate Daytona. I do have a slight dilemma though, and would be interested to get the forums thoughts on the subject. My head is telling me to go the AD route & wait in line for the current model on Oysterflex with baton hour markers & black sub registers. The thing is though, if I’m honest with myself I think I actually prefer the previous generation with the Arabic numbers & gold outline sub registers. From a purely financial outlay point of view, it makes far more sense to go AD as the current UK list is £23,800 GBP. The previous version on Oysterflex at a grey dealer here is going to be anywhere between £31,950 up to & beyond £35,000 + Putting the price difference to one side, just interested to get thoughts on the new baton v old Arabic dial preferences Cheers in advance Some pics for reference Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The Arabics for me. I like the sub-dials better and the overall look just seems more special to me. YMMV.

I would buy the discontinued model if I had the choice.
Both of them are absolutely amazing though so whichever one you can get |

Not a fan of the arabic numerals, also find the lume to be weird. Definitely the newer model for me.

Can't go wrong with either. I prefer the all-black sub dials versus the numbers.

I just picked up the current chocolate oysterflex from my AD. Here are a few recent shots that will give you a more realistic look at the colors.

On a busy Daytona dial I would opt for the baton markers but I have to admit on chocolate dial the black arabs looks pretty awesome, tough choice.

Thanks for all the reply’s so far guys - seems like a pretty even split between batons & Arabic’s.
I can see the pro’s & cons of both so still sitting on the fence at the moment, although I must admit I am still leaning slightly more towards the the Arabic’s…. Will keep you updated Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi Brian Not yet - I did get the chance to buy one recently on the grey market but the premium was a bit too much of a stretch. I have my name down with a couple of AD’s who I’ve purchased from previously so just keeping my fingers crossed at the moment. One of the AD’s seemed a littler more positive than the other on realistic expectations of actually being offered one. I did play the violin card a bit by telling them I would love to be able to get one before May 2022 as it’s mine & the old girls 25th wedding anniversary - that seemed to help a bit….. time will tell & don’t worry you definitely won’t miss the incoming if I ever do get offered one Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Good luck Max. Looks like we are in the same camp in a lot of ways. This is the ONLY model I’m after granted the Black dial shown above would suffice. Literally the only model I want. I’m working with 2 A D’s. One is the manager. The other his name is on the building Idk we shall see. Have been staring and staring at at Greys but just can’t do it. Granted I have went Grey many times. Just want to ride this one out. Hope it doesn’t come back to bite me and RG Daytonas have gotten even more insane. Hope you get one soon. Btw my anniversary is April.

I won’t go with Arabic, don’t like the fact that you can only see some numbers and not the 3,6,9,12. Seems incomplete to me.
I know, I’m weird… |

Both are fantastic… You won’t go wrong. With that said, probably batons for me.
My rose and sundust below. Nothing like a RG Daytona. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’m really wanting to see the sun dust in person. While I think I want one, the appearance is all over the board via internet pictures. Initially, I thought it was a more champagne color than the previous rose gold dial it replaced. In this picture, it looks grey. Confused. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

In my experience watches always look way better in person than in pics on the net. I don’t actually think Rolex do themselves any favours with the way they show their watches on their own website. The pics seem very cold & clinical - many times I’ve seen a watch at an AD or on someone’s wrist & thought ‘Wow that looks totally different’ I don’t think you will have any issues with the sun dust dial - I’m sure you will love it. Both are gorgeous timepieces but I would rather get it from the boutique/AD, so it would be the new model.
I preferred the full bracelet over OF, so I have RG Daytona with black dial and I love it so much.

This is an older thread, but in case the OP is still thinking about it, I suggest calling RSC. They may allow you to put the older style dial on a new Daytona if the model number hasn’t changed. I’ve seen the blue Arabic numerals dial on yellow gold oyster flex ones for example. But I’m not sure what the current RSC rules are of course.
