I finally get it.

In 2017 my lovely wife gifted my first Rolex, an 116610LN, for our 10 year wedding anniversary. I wore it mostly on weekends or special occasions, so I'm guessing only 50-75 days a year.

Earlier this spring she was diagnosed with cancer. Instinctually, I grew more connected to my Subbie and this was the first summer I wore it daily. On my wrist during our family vacation, hanging out with our two amazing boys in the backyard, to every doctor's visit and hospital scan. I even started wearing it at home, which is something I never did.

I guess I'm just trying to share with you how I always wanted to keep this sentimental gift pristine, babied, because I thought it would be more special that way. Now I realize that it's actually more special when I wear it every day, and look down at my trusty Subbie, and think about my beautiful wife and two young sons. I can't control the future, but I know that this watch will be with me every step of the way.

Thank you for reading this post and I wish all of you and your loved ones the best of health.

Thank you for your kind offer. I know TRF can often have some heated banter between members, but it's comments like this that show how wonderful this little community of ours really is. God bless.

I spoke to a family member last night that that had just found out she had cancer, and the prognosis is about as bad as it gets. Only 40 years old so this doesn't spare anyone. I've spent a lot of today wondering what actually matters, so your post really hits home.

I wish you and your wife and family the best.

Your story hits very close to home. In 2016 my pregnant wife was diagnosed with breast cancer which kicked off a crazy 12 months. Doing well now but I would say buying and reading about watches during that time was my escape. All I can say stay positive and best of luck.

Thank you fellow members, for all your well wishes. My wife is relatively young and was otherwise healthy, so her diagnosis was a complete shock and surprise. She is amazing, brave and so strong - more than I could ever be.

We all cope with things differently, watches and this Forum are what helps me when I need a break. My wife has always supported this crazy hobby of mine, which makes it, and her, all the more special. Thank you.

Wishing her a full recovery and happiness to both of you.

It's all about health, happiness & family. The rest are just necessary inconveniences we have to deal with.

I know a few friends who have parents that passed away from cancer and a few that beat it. My wife who is young recently received a brain tumor diagnosis. I'm guessing that you're in the Vancouver area as I am also. The medical system here is very frusterating. It took us 18 months to get an MRI. I hope things are better for your family regarding medical access. Will keep you in our prayers! Oh and I found that a sub needs to be worn daily to be really appreciated!

All the best to you and your family, and thanks for sharing this story. I've worn my sub everyday for the past 7 years or so, and love it! I never take it off. Work, sleep, eat, shower, swim, hike, play sports, etc. Sub's always on. Wishing your wife the very best treatment and kick cancer's ass...
