What looked way better in person the first time you saw it?

For me it was a solid yellow gold sky dweller/white dial.
Was blown away by it. Sitting in a case at an AD a year ago.
It seemed like it was 3 levels above anything I had seen before.
I absolutely loved it and knew if I could afford it, I could never get it.
It was ridiculously beautiful. WAY above me. (And my pay grade!)

Almost everything else in my mind flies under the radar compared to that watch I saw that day. Just handling it and trying it on was an experience.

Anyone else ever try on a watch that impacted them?

GMT two-tone root beer. Much more muted in-person than in photos.

So if I’m reading correctly, you were a little disappointed in person?

I say the same. It’s so good in person. The palette works so well and is earthy. There was one in the case when I bought my Sub in 2019.

I never wanted a Daytona before … I thought they were too busy.

But when I put one on my wrist recently, I fell in love with it … now I have to have one.

I’m trying for the 116500LN with White Dial … though, I think the Black Dial is equally appealing, but I have a Black Sub that is too close.

Absolutely my experience as well. Always thought the Daytona was a 'pretty' watch but never did much for me re: wanting to buy it. But my AD asked if I was interested in a black dial 116500 and I went down to try it on and the fit was amazing on my 6.75ish wrist. Bought it and have worn regularly since then. Now I'm a big convert to the Daytona

These two. Had no plans to buy either (they did not look good in pictures to me at all) and actually went into the AD for other pieces. Once I saw them in the case - game over.

Hulk was acquired in early 2017 and the DJ41 just the other month. Only difference is the Hulk was an actual watch you could buy back then while the first time I saw the white DJ41, it was only a display / demo piece! Luckily my AD came through quickly. Can't say the demo pieces haven't been somewhat of a win for instances like this.

usually the opposite for me (look better in pictures vs. in-person)

the only exception I can think of is the black dial daytona. wow. the lightplay is incredible on that dial.

The PAM 111 is the first one that I tried on, my signature tells the rest of the story.

Agreed! As a Luminor fan, I never thought I would like the Submersible, much less in bronze till a client wore one.

Agreed. Tried this in and fell in love! Also, to me, the black dial Daytona and WG sub with blue bezel look so much nicer in person than in photos.

I have a dead heat:

TT CHNR. Wasn't interested. Saw it in AD window, couldn't stop looking.

116610LV. Thought it looked gaudy. A migraine on a bracelet. Met one in person, fantastic build quality compared to the 16610LV, bezel better than I thought, dial stunning.

I thought the same thing, until I had dinner with a friend. He had one and it looks great in all different light. Made me wish I picked one up.

Too many to list. Macro images help some and hurt others. Most of my collection are watches I didn't' like in images but fell in love with once on my wrist.

Gold Daytona with green dial. Never cared for green in pictures.
Saw it 2 years ago in NYC on someone’s wrist. Looked absolutely stunning in person.

Sky-Dweller. Looked to me like a bulky Datejust in pictures, but I fell in love with it the first time I got to handle one. Ended up buying it in stainless steel with the black dial and it always impresses me every time I put it on my wrist.

It's worked both ways for me...usually I'm blown away from the pictures and disappointed in the flesh. The green Daytona comes to mind.

As to your question, the black 216570. The year the model was introduced, I was head over heels in lust for the white dial. When my AD finally got one, I went in to pick it up and they had just received the black as well. Just for fun, I tried it on and wow! I was stunned at how much I liked it.

I went ahead and got the white, but I knew I would have the black someday, and I did...and you know, funny thing. I love them both dearly, but if I had to pick just one today, it would be the black.
