This or That - 116500 (White Dial) or 16520 (Zenith)?
These two watches are in parity with one another in terms of current market value. If given the choice, which would you prefer?

Any pre-ceramic daytona if given the choice for me. Both are excellent though.

I chose the Zenith in the poll, even though I have the white DaytonaC. In my early watch collecting days I told myself that I wouldn't own a Rolex with the exception to a Daytona (Zenith movement at the time). I passed up on the Daytona twice. Wish I would have pulled the trigger on it back in the day, not because of the value now, but because I truly like the Zenith model. Fast forward to now and I own several different Rolex models with the white DaytonaC being my most recent purchase from my AD.

Fortunate to have both from new, i would say the zenith without a doubt in terms of aesthetics, but the 116500 is definitely a more solid feeling watch. If I could only have one it would be the zenith, plus it’s been through so much and is still ticking away.

I have my white dial 116500 and future value is unimportant so I'm good.

I have both ceramic Daytona’s, but if hypothetically I had to sell (I don’t) two I’d keep these two zenith.

I’m surprised at how much love the Zenith gets. Don’t get me wrong it’s a beauty
Full disclosure, I don’t own a Daytona. In the pictures the Zenith looks like it wears a but larger …. Can owners of both comment? |

Ceramic wears larger, thicker, and heavier…………..which to a lot of beginners means better…..I prefer the black ceramic myself of the 2 ceramics but a nice 16520 is always better than both

I have owned several of both and prefer the current Daytona-C. More for appearance and the ceramic bezel.

My first Daytona was a white dial 16520 A serial in 2000, near the end of the run. Shortly thereafter the inhouse movement 116520 was introduced and a I gladly sold the Zenith when the opportunity for a new gen white dial came up.
Sure if I’d held onto it the value would be through the roof now but I didn’t think about watches like that then or now. I like the aesthetics of its dial but didn’t enjoy the non-hacking movement or the scratch magnet bezel. The current ceramic version solves that. I chose black dial this time and I believe it’s a keeper this time. I have no need or desire to have both dials, I’d rather have variety in my box. |
