I am seriously considering the purchase of a Deep Sea 116660. I really likethe fact that it is an "extreme" watch--a watch that represents what Rolex is capable of doing. I realize that it is a large watch, and even though I am not a big guy I feel like I can handle that. Please give me your thoughts--pro and con--on the Deep Sea before I take the plunge (so to speak).

I am not a small guy and I have an 8" wrist...
I had a Deep Sea and wore it all day everyday for 18 months...
It's a great looking watch and very comfortable...
But in the end the thickness began to bother me to the point where I ended up selling it...
It became to just much "In my face" if that makes any sense...???
That was a couple of years ago and I have no regrets...
I ended up back with my 16600...Which I feel is perfection!!!

Similar to me. I had a 116660 DSSD for a while and while it wore OK diameter-wise - I have 7.75” wrists - it was the thickness that started to irritate me too. As a watch it’s a technical tour de force, but for everyday wear I found it complete overkill….and that’s because it’s not designed as an everyday piece.

I sold it and bought a 126600 SD43 instead, which wore much better in terms of thickness. Ultimately that went too (due to a movement issue) but size-wise it suited my lifestyle far more than the DSSD.

My wrist is 7.25 to 7.5". For me, the Deep Sea (I have the 126660 JC) is perfect. It's at least as much about your frame size as it is your wrist size. Also, keep in mind most people on this forum, and probably most Rolex buyers in general prefer watches in the 40 mm range.

I would recommend trying one on if you can.
It's not the dial size which is the issue, it's the thickness.
I love my JC but it gets way less wrist time than my Sub41 for that reason alone.

My favorite duo is SDDS JC and SkyDweller, most worn from my entire collection.
I like SDDS’s size. Regarding thickness, that’s what I like the most about it.

But I may be biased, I own three Ploprof.

I have the 116660 DSSD and like it very much.
I think the shape of the diameter of your wrist matters.
If you have a flat wrist as opposed to a round wrist it probably makes a difference.
My wrist is on the flat side I’m usually somewhere between 7 - 7.3 depending on the temperature.

I also have the 126660 JC, I’ve had it about 2 months now.
Been wearing it nearly every day and no issues with it being too big on my wrist, however, it’s definitely a large chunk of watch !

I would definitely try one on before you buy though. The thickness of the watch won’t suit everyone.

The DSSD is certainly an acquired taste. I think most people will likely be turned off due to its large size and thickness. I personally love mine though, and I am not a small person. I purchased it when my son was born and was heavily into deep technical diving at the time, so it has some sentimental value to me. You will definitely want to check it out in person to make your own assessment.

One other thing I might add is that it really is a choice of personal style and comfort. A smaller guy might possibly love it, while it's also possible that a larger person might not feel comfortable with its size due to their own personal style.

I think another positive is that it does not seem to be a highly desirable piece, so perhaps you may have better luck sourcing one at a reasonable price. Good luck!

44mm case. Many can handle that. 17.6mm thickness. Many dont want to handle that. its a great looking watch though.

Some great points already. Ive had my DSSD since July 2020 and it finds as much time on my wrist as my CHNR. The watch is not for everyone but it is the ultimate dive watch and simply gorgeous. Try one and see what you think. Btw I have 6.75” wrists

I’m glad to hear this. I too have a 6.75” wrist. I have tried on the DSSD a few times and love the size but I’m concerned about the weight over time. Still want though. Concern won’t stop me.

There’s a pic. As far as weight you get used to it. In fact I kinda like it… “tells me I got a bad a$$ watch on my wrist”. I haven’t checked the numbers but it’s probably pretty similar in weight to a PM piece... Put it this way. I could have traded it in and got a sub already but I like the uniqueness of it and the bold presence it puts out. To each their own..

It is very thick. The diameter is fine. If you have multiple watches and it is in a rotation, then you’ll enjoy it. If you plan to wear it a lot, like multiple times per week, then I think there are limitations. It’s a great conversation piece though.

You get used to the thickness (and that is NOT intended as a ‘thats what she said’ joke though she may have said that ;)

Other thick watches I have in rotation are a Breitling Seawolf Avenger and a Panerai 615 submersible. My IWC pilot and Zenith Defy are much more wearable with a long sleeve dress shirt.

To each their own, I don't buy into the "it looks too big for your wrist" crowd; if you like it, buy it. I will say this, put one on before buying though. I thought I loved the JC DSSD and even tried it on, albeit very quickly. Literally, the first time I wore it after buying, I knew I'd messed up. I just hated how it felt and looked. I think I was smitten by the blue/black dial in the store. It's the thickness that I really disliked.

I traded it for a SD43 and absolutely love that one.

It’s not too big. Get the 12 series with improved bracelet however.

Honestly it’s the last watch I got from Rolex, I expected for it to be only for the weekend or fun moments. I wear it everyday because it’s just excellently designed.

Now looking at my submariner and others, they look like a flat crepe.

No issues for me. I've owned a Deepsea since they were first introduced.
So unique, unparalleled engineering and looks and wears great despite it's size. It really just comes down to your personal taste.

The deciding factor for me was comfort. I find it much better than the SD43 where the crown dug in and the case back was small. DSSD has neither of those issues. With the correct bracelet adjustment you hardly know you are wearing it.

I have a 6.6" wrist but when I saw 126660 DSSD JC, I fell in love right away. I tried it on and love it, the thickness doesn't bother me. I wear it on rotation of all my watches.

DSSD JC is the big brother of all diving watches, all other Subs are little brothers.

I have the 11 series black dial as well and like it because of its ‘flaws’ compared to the newer version. A true marvel of engineering.
