Airking update from AD
Received a call from my AD today asking if I still had my Airking. He said to hold on to it carefully. Allocations have stopped and price starting to move up dramatically.
Wonder what he knows that no one else does. |

Have to agree but if the likes of so called social media, YouTube etc, stated the Airking is a must have and buy watch because it might be discontinued which is very unlikely. Then hype would take over as Airkings being the greatest thing since sliced bread. The Airking is a great watch with one of the longest production runs for any Rolex watch its been around since the 1940s.

You always keep saying this “so called social media”. What do you mean? They are social media. Billions if not trillions of $ worth, changes the life of billions of people, changed the world, and clearly is the most impactful invention of the century. Not saying it’s all for the best; but it changed the world. So why “so called” ? It’s social media. That’s what we collectively decided to name it. |

Seems to be discontinued as already expected for some time. https://www.chrono24.com/magazine/wh...-p_86862/#gref Nr. of available AK 116900 on Chrono24 has decreased dramatically the last weeks......now only 32 new available. Prices rose extremely last month's.........mine NOS / in the seals purchased sept. 2019 for € 5.575,-........NOS (Europe) now costs between € 13.000,- and € 16.000,- In 2019 I wrote on the Dutch Rolex Forum (Google Translate): .........The Air King 116900 is a beauty, with the only Rolex dial featuring a 1/2 digit Arabic numeral (5-55); Crown in yellow and Rolex logo in green, sec. Green hands, white gold 3,6 and 9 and the anti-magnetic properties of the Milgauss including free ... In addition, a great size of 40 mm, pleasantly "flat"; wears it as a personal touch... and "Brushed Midlinks"... really a barely discovered Rolex model, hardly discovered yet... all elements of the "past" in a unique modern layout! And then the unique "low" entry price ... (still) ... These are prerequisites for becoming a future classic... By the way...this very original "technical" dial with the subtle Rolex green/yellow colors should make an impression on you. ...very different from all other Rolex models...something new/refreshing and yet with the familiar Rolex elements of "in the past"...a good chance you'll suddenly really like this Air King because of the special features and that you will become aware of the unique possibilities (still) offered with this model... |

He was, with a lack of tact, inquiring to whether you sold it or kept it. He has no insider information.

And he doesn’t know anything either.
The entire industry is aware the AK and Milgauss have older movements and are likely to be updated or discontinued. This comes up every year. Eventually, something will happen. NOBODY knows when. |

Dealers just talking up prices of watches they bought up cheap. Completed ebay sales in December had them going for Ł6-7k and now they are asking Ł9-10k.

It's no secret there is a strong chance the Air King/Milgauss will either be discontinued or upgraded in March.

Twenty five years since 2007 seems a good time to either upgrade or discontinue the Milgauss. It would make sense.
I noticed Paul Thorpe on his YT channel said back in October that production had already ceased. I was speaking to an AD in Stockholm and they hadn't seen one in months so this rings true. Who knows though? It's a guessing game. |

The internet and social media hype will make it go through the roof regardless of if it is the ugliest watch that Rolex has ever made. I bet DavidSW is already starting to hoard them for when the news breaks.

I used to get those kind of comments in my job.....'Oh there aren't many about for sale' Yeah for good reason.....they WEREN'T that popular in the first place so they never sold that many new!! Hence with these why the model is likely to get a refresh.

Using Chrono24 listings for anything but entertainment value is a bad idea. I spoke with my AD today and she indicated that they are still receiving both Air Kings and Milgauss. The Rolex rumor mill is laughable.
