Rolex Explorer ‘ball bearing rattle’ sound
I’ve just picked up a brand new Explorer 1 from an AD, but it sounds like it’s almost got a ball bearing ratting around in there. Is this normal?
I’ve got a sub & a Daytona which don’t have this sound at all, but didn’t know if this noise was normal from the newer movement used in the Explorer? Thanks in advance! |

If it has the newer 32 movement, which I believe it does, what you can hear is a bearing and it is normal. If the watch functions correctly it is nothing to worry about.
This is why I prefer the 31 movements, but it hasn't stopped me from buying a couple of 32s. |

I actually prefer the 31 movements for this small reason too, and also, I have some 32 movements.

At least you are also gaining some Power Reserve. I tend to like the 31 movements better, first time adjusting a 32 got me all confused lol.

For my personal use, the increased power reserve doesn't make a difference. But I guess it's there if I ever need it. |

I didn't know this was an issue with the new movements....but then again if my hearing is anything like my vision, I'll never hear it.

Its not a issue most all ball bearing rotors are the same, now with movements that use the Valjoux 7750 range you can feel the rotor winding on the wrist.

Not noticed a bearing noise from mine but then I’ve not been listening for one. That said I have read other threads where it’s been stated as normal for the newer movements.
Get enjoying it, I love mine Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

My 124270 is noisy too. Not a rattle sound but a high-pitched sound that is audible if my watch is anywhere near my ear; my 32 series DJ makes the same sound. I have to say, I’m not a fan of the noise. My 31 series are much quieter.

I don't think I'd mind the sound so much, but why Rolex didn't stick to winding the crown forwards to set the time forwards!

I agree! i have both 31 and 32, prefer the clockwise crown rotation to match the clockwise time setting. Not a big deal, i still like the 32 better for the higher PR.

Took it into another local AD I was close to, they took one look at it - shook it and said no way is that right…. So back to the AD & off to Rolex is goes!
How long do people think on average I’d likely be without the watch while it goes back to Rolex? I’m based in the UK |

People here might hazard a guess, but I would just liaise by phone or email with the office of whichever RSC it is sent to, and they should give a good idea. This is what I did over the Christmas period in Australia, and their timeframe (six weeks in my case) was spot on.

That’s not normal, Sounds like the rotor may be loose.
