If can only have 1 Rolex, you will choose 39mm Explorer or SUB C?
Both are Iconic
But if can only choose 1 Rolex for the rest of your life Will you choose 39mm Explorer or Sub C (11,12 Series) |

Sub with date
Without a date I go crazy, stopped wearing Daytona panda and went with Pepsi instead |

The Sub will easily be the first choice.

I prefer the Submariner over the Explorer but if I could only have one I’d go for the Explorer 39mm as I think that is slightly more versatile.

The 39mm Explorer is the perfect watch for me. Everything about it. Way more comfortable on my wrist that a Sub C..now if you asked to choose the 39mm Explorer or a 5 digit Sub or GMT, that would be interesting..
The Explorer to a Sub C is like comparing a sports car to a sports sedan. To answer your question though. Both.

When either of my daughers asked me which one of them is my favorite, I'd always say the other one.

Between SUB 11X or 12X , I would choose SUB 12X over 11x due to the redesigned case and lugs. If you are interested in the 39mm Explorer because you prefer a watch under 40mm then also consider the previous explorer 114270 which was 36 mm before it was 39mm but then you must decide if the improvements made to the 39mm Explorer make it a better choice over the previous 36mm. Or consider the new 36mm Explorer as well. Between the 39mm Explorer and a SUB I can not choose because these are both awesome everyday watches and the question to ask yourself, is whether or not you need or want the rotating bezel, or if you also want a date, then get the SUB. If I had only one I think it comes down to which looks best on your wrist.

Only 1 Rolex? Would pick the Explorer, 39mm MK2. Perfect watch, suitable for ANY occasion, comfortable, versatile, flawless.
It has a reputation as a "Collection Killer" for good reason.

Explorer 39 is my vote. The Sub screams Rolex while the Explorer probably looks like a Seiko to some people. To me versatility is being able to wear it anywhere and I can’t see wearing a ceramic sub everywhere.
Aside from that the Explorer is more comfortable and lighter. |

I kinda misread it I think... Do you mean that you don't anticipate the Sub getting as much wrist time as the Exp or that you don't anticipate any wrist time for the Exp in the future?

The Explorer was my daily watch for 20 years. As now i have more watch in rotation and it reducing the wrist time of all of them.I still think that in today world the Sub is more in your face product and bit show off in some situation. For that reason the Explorer will always have a safe spot in my humble watch collection.Don't get my wrong my 41mm Sub date was my grail watch and i enjoy wearing it and it did not stop running since i receive it in January this year and i don't use a winder....hope this clarified my original comment.

Submariner - only one that has stuck with me through the years from the 11s to the 12s.
