My AD called — do I pull the trigger in a falling market?

My AD called, my grail (126610LV) is mine. But. For a guy for whom money is real, would I be wise to wait for prices to fall below msrp? Will we see ADs discounting prices any time soonish?

I would get it. It’s a beautiful watch. The new Submariner dimensions are perfect. In my view, getting a Rolex from an AD is absolutely the way to go. Personally, I don’t see LV values dipping below retail anyway.

You’ll see used prices below MSRP, and grey market “new” below MSRP, long before you see ADs offering significant discounts. If you’re buying to wear, congratulations.

I would jump on it I personally think prices are pretty stable and on their way up again, it’s still a couple of times over retail this watch to buy right? I would jump at the chance - if I wanted it (which I don’t)

Retail is 10,600 in the USA
Gray is 17,000-18,000

High was around 26,000 I think

No they are not up again.
Just because asking price is uP doesnt mean it’s selling

No one is buying $30k stainless daytonas ( that were $50k) anymore
Its over.
Many are selling below retail like rootbeer solid gold gmt,
White/yellow gold sub, even blue daytona is slightly above retail
( real prices)
We are back to olde days

LOL... the old days would see these all under retail, with Daytona's at a healthier premium (still overpriced).

PM will slide there - not rare, not hard to get, and a 30k+ upsell on 3-4k of PM materials. TT's will eventually reverse too IMO.

SS sports watches though? I doubt it.

Rolex are not going below MSRP anytime soon. Hard to imagine the LV in particular going near that. Just get it congrats! It is an amazing watch.

Buy it, the price for that watch will never be under MSRP unless nukes start flying. Worst case scenario you can sell it if you need money. Win/Win

If you are even thinking like that, pass. You are caught up in the financials, not the watch.

Incorrect. Not looking to make money and never have flipped a watch (or ever even sold one). Rather, if people think we’re heading back sometime soon to the days where ADs will be discounting (which I remember well as it wasn’t long ago), I’ll wait. If not, I’m buying it at msrp

if a small chance at saving 800 bucks is worth a larger chance of not getting the watch at all, you should wait. if it isn’t, you shouldn’t.

I’m open to being corrected, but I was around when the first green subs were released, and I don’t ever remember them discounted at ADs.

They were, both the 16610 LV and 116610 LV not popular on their release at all.
In todays market the OP better buys it though

The world is different now. There are so many more rich people that a global pandemic and shutdown did not dent the demand for luxury goods, homes, cars etc. all demand a premium. Rich people are even more rich, regardless of what the stock market does.

Rolex isn’t increasing production and demand from people with money continues to rise.

Trying to time a bottom never works, and you could never get the chance at MSRP again. I’m betting that MSRP IS the bottom. Don’t forget, MSRP is increased from time to time so even if you are offered it next year, it could easily be at a higher MSRP.

Buy the watch and wear it in good health.

If it is a true grail, get it ASAP. Not worth it to wait to see if you can get a small discount on it (don’t think it will ever be discounted any time soon from AD).

It seems pretty clear he wants the watch, he just wants to get it at a lower price.

Who isn’t concerned about financials when making a large purchase?
