Dial Defect in new YM40

Just picked up this new YM40 on 10/7/23 and noticed only under very certain angles, there is what looks like a defect/ scratch on the sunray finish. I waited about 3 years for this watch and although it is difficult to see and much more prominent in this photo, the defect does bother me at times as I can see it with the naked eye.

The defect or whatever you want to call it is at the 27 second mark extending up until around right under where it says “ certified “

My question is since Rolex would more than likely replace this dial under warranty as they consider it a defect from what i’ve been told, what should I do?

I personally hate sending my watches to rsc as in my experience they are hackjobs who tend to rush their work with minimal attention to detail. My pepsi came back so bad after waiting months from RSC I just sold it.

5/5 of the watches that I’ve serviced at RSC have always come back with scratched hour markers, misaligned dials, or dust under the crystal.

Question: What would you do?

1. Leave it as is
2. Send to RSC for new dial if warranty covers it
3. Ask for refund/exchange for a different watch
4. Sell it
5. Blend it

I am leaning the most towards leave it as is. Thoughts are much appreciated :)

Well in well over 50 years of owning many Rolex watches and having many RSC services done world wide never ever had any problems whatsoever.

OP - I am not sure which RSC you have been sending your watches to, please try Dallas RSC and see if the comes are different. I have had better luck with them.

The watch should be covered under warranty, however, it pains to see such issues with a new watch.

It is very frustrating but it’s only visible a very small amount of the time. They have a watch maker at my AD maybe RSC can send the dial and they can swap it locally.

#2 for sure but dang that would drive me insane so don’t feel like you are being too particular pointing it out. These things should be flawless for what they cost IMO

Here is a pic today where you can’t see the blemish at all. Even in direct sunlight you often can’t see it.

Such a beautiful watch. Been thinking about getting one for quite sometime. Besides the dial issue, how has your experience been?

Up to you really. I have one dial that has a slightly prominent line on the sunburst dial, but can only see at one or two angles. It is subtle even then. Doesn't bother me really. If it bothered me at all, I'd send it in. I think Dallas turn around time is pretty good these days for warranty work.

Beautiful reference, by the way.

Since you took the time and effort to post, it must be bothering you. It would bother me too. I would take it back. A dial swap is simple.

#2 Or have a certified Rolex watchmaker at your AD do it for you if you prefer that over RSC. My AD has some excellent watchmakers.

Send it in for a dial swap. Disappointing but easily fixed.
Curious, what happened to your BLRO that was so bad causing you to sell it?

Are you absolutely in love with the watch now that it is on your wrist?

If not, go with option 3.

If yes, get it over to RSC for a replacement dial option 2.
