Outfit Question

I obviously match my watch strap to my belt and shoes. But do you guys typically wear a watch, like a submariner, with a blue suit. I know in theory a submariner should go with anything, but I gravitate towards wearing the sub with black and gray. Just curious.

There are a few non Rolexes out there on blue bands, but I hesitate to buy because I wear brown belts and shoes with blue suits and I’m not sure if it will go.

Sub on bracelet with blue suit is fine. Blue dial Sky-D is also an option.

Most any watch works with anything these days. Don't forget some years ago, most people had only one watch they wore as a daily with everything.

This! I wear whatever suits my mood. The only time I don’t is if I’m dressing way up! Then I’ll wear a fancy watch, too. Otherwise, anything goes.

I’m just here to say you do not need to match your watch with your shoes and belt. A watch is an accessory and does not need to match.

Matchy-matchy is a real thing.

Sub with a suit looks good IMHO. An SS Rolex is so versatile it can be dressed up or down. My OCD won’t allow me to wear a watch with a leather strap if my belt and shoes are a different color than the strap.

a black sub will go with anything. if its green, then its another story (one of the reasons why i havent gotten a green sub is the ease of matching with outfits)

Very true. I have seen my grandfather tend to his garden in a 1950s Hamilton dress watch.

This man speaks the truth. A black or blue Sub will work with pretty much everything outside of the formalist of occasions. I'd second guess a green one, though. I would not deliberately swap the bracelet for a strap to match my belt or shoes, but then again, my friend group is only ex-Navy degenerates, attorneys, CPAs & one anesthetist. We aren't exactly fashion-forward. No invites to the Met Gala coming this way anytime soon.

Came here to say this. When I owned a 116610LV, I would wear it with navy all the time.

Outfit Question

A black dial Submariner goes great with a navy suit. Only a small number of watch snobs on watch forums think it doesn’t go with a navy suit. That said, a DJ is even better.

Also, this is why I don’t like watches on leather straps. I think if you’re wearing black shoes and a black belt, then your watch strap should be black too. I never mix a watch on a black leather strap with brown shoes and a brown belt. A watch on a bracelet makes this problem go away for me.

The only watch in my collection I won’t wear with a suit is my Seamaster Diver 300. I think it’s over the top for a suit. My 2 cents…

I'm still a bit old school and feel that sport watches don't typically go well in formal attire. So more plain Jane watches on leather / croc straps is what I typically wear.

I know it is personal taste and sense of style - but I go to at least 1 true "black tie" (ie TUX) event every year. Being a wanna be "WIS", I do notice the watches worn at events. I've seen all sorts of bracelet watches: YG DJ, TT daytona, TT sub, etc - and they look just fine to me (again, personally).

Purely down to personal preference. If it looks good to you, it's good. Nobody else will be checking your watch colour coordination.

Well, Sartorial Dress Code rule 348 states that, “A modern gentleman must remain matchy-matchy at all times, on pain of hurt feelings and enduring insecurity, from being pointed and laughed at by more elegant members of society”.

So I’ve found that if you want to wear a stainless steel bracelet there’s really only one way to go -

Cramps your style a bit in the clubs, football is out of the question with THOSE toes, and rust is a problem in wetter climes, but at least your accessories match, and OBVIOUSLY that’s the main thing.

Do people still ask these questions? Where what you like because nobody else cares, or will likely notice.
