Hi From Cape Town, South Africa
Hi there to you all,
I joined the forum yesterday. Back in 1980, I bought an all Stainless steel Air King Date here in Cape Town, South Africa. I had it for 2 years before I bought an all Stainless steel Datejust as well in 1982. I then gave the Air King Date to my dad in 1982. In 1983 he died and I got back. I then gave it to my father In-law who cherished it all these years. In 1989, I sold the Datejust... dumb thing to do.... but I really needed cash. Two weeks ago, my father In-law died and I got it back again. He had it serviced about 2 years ago and I now have my original Rolex back. This is one I definitely will not sell. I've had a look around on the internet and have not seen anyone who has an Air King Date. I also understand that Rolex does not make the Air King Date anymore. Can anyone tell me why not. They still make the Air King, but without the date. I've found that my Air King Date looses about 5 seconds a day in spite of laying it down face up on a flat surface over night. Does anyone think that I should have it set again, or could I do that myself if I had the right tools? Just interested to know what you guys think. Many thanks for a very interesting website. Regards, Rory |

Welcome, well only Rolex can explain why they no longer make the Air King Date model. However, I suspect that it overlapped with the Oyster Perpetual Date and that may have been a reason to cut it from the range.
One does see the Air King Date from time to time, but it is not very common to see. I would not try to do the timing adjustment yourself. You would be well advised to take it to Rolex or a good watchmaker who should be able to do it in a matter of minutes.

Hi there to you all,
Thanks guys for the welcome and for the info. I certainly will take my Air King Date to a place here in Cape Town called, Chronos who apparently are the official Rolex service agents for Cape Town. Anyone out there heard of them? Regards, Rory |
