Kermit or Pepsi GMT!? Please help
I am trying to help my father decide which watch to add to his collection. He currently has a yellow gold sub with blue dial and a no-date sub. Should he enhance his submariner collection with the LV MK2 or should he diversify with a Pepsi GMT? He is concerned about going from glidelock to easylink. How much do you guys miss glidelock when wearing a GMT (assuming you have experienced both)?
Thanks all!!! |

Pepsi. He already has a Sub.
Glide lock is great. The GMTs should have it, but obviously do not yet.

I wear both a Pepsi and Kermit and love them both and have no issues. He should go for the Pepsi since he has a sub.. me thinks. But really, he needs you to ask us what to buy? He already has a solid gold sub and cares what I think...

Talking watches is just a fun father-son activity, and discussing them on this forum is a fun activity too! It’s certainly not a matter of necessity but then neither is spending $$$ on luxury watches in general. Thank you for your comment

I own both and here’s my recent experience.
I used to always say that it would be nice to have a mini glidelock on all the professional references … maybe I still think it’s a good idea. That said, I just wore my BLRO for two weeks solid while away on vacation. I found that the easy link was just perfect whenever I needed a bit more slack in the bracelet. Maybe I don’t need as much adjustability as I figured. Anyway, I think he should get the GMT. He already has his Submariner bases covered |

Get the GMT. The 5mm extension is quick and easy to use (easier than Glidelock) and is just enough for me when my arm swells a bit.

GMT
The glidelock is great, but I find the easylink on my others to work just fine |

I actually went the other way. Wanted the Pepsi badly, ended up getting it and Kermit/Starbucks about 8 mo later. After a year or so of both I sold the Pepsi back to my AD. Wore the LV 7 out of 10 times bc:
- comfort - glidelock - color I found the green in my MK1 perfect (and the MK2 looks freaking awesome in its own right). On the flip side, I ultimately just wasn’t crazy about the shades of red and blue. I *love* the OG Pepsi colors. I love the blue in the BLNR. If it was BLNR blue and a brighter red it may be perfect. And love jubilee. But that’s just not where it is right now. Have been quasi-offered to buy a Pepsi again (I only sold it bc I wasn’t wearing it, and I had a steep tax bill at the time….just felt a bit wasteful just sitting there….i have several other Rolex in the fold)….bit I feel like until the colors are adjusted I’d prob just want to sell again. Or buy an OG Pepsi. Should be in for a white dial 12 soon anyways and would rather try that. Love it, just love the LV a lot more. |

I like the green sub better. Also he will have the ultimate trio. I would go LV Sub.

I would suggest that he buy the GMT to diversify his collection. Also, the Pepsi may be getting discontinued so, better to get that first.

If the BLRO gets discontinued my next Rolex will be the Kermit to compliment my 116710LN.

Given your father’s collection definitely go with the Pepsi - coming from a person that owns both watches… I don’t miss the Glidelock at all when wearing my GMT… tbh I don’t use easy link either. I’m lucky the bracelets are sized right for me where I don’t need to adjust based on weather conditions etc. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Pepsi for sure! I think he would enjoy just how different a GMT is from the Subs he already has. I think he would easily adapt and get used to the Easylink.

I went from a 116600 to a Pepsi, and don’t miss the glidelock at all. The variations needed in bracelet sizing was always accomplished with a minor tweak with the glidelock, which is also satisfied with the easylink.
Unless he was in situations requiring significant movement of the glidelock, he should be fine. |

GMT > Sub... I have both, and while I wear both often, the GMT functionally serves a better purpose. Regarding the glide lock, I don't miss it when wearing the GMT. I don't constantly adjust the glide lock or easy link so it's not an issue.

It takes just a bit longer to adjust the clasp on my 16710 and 16610LV so I think you are referring to the 6 digit?

The GMT, you really don’t need another sub. The glidelock is nice but on my GMT i really don’t miss it once it is sized right. And do you need some extra room, the easylink also does the job.

I thought the Kermit was the original 16610LV.
Why confuse it with the 6 digit models? We should use model numbers?

Easy link is good enough. He won't miss the glidelock. I have watches with both and never missed the glidelock on the others.
Also, the GMT is more comfortable as the clasp is smaller. I find the new clasp on the new Sub a bit too long. I'd add the Pepsi on jubile if I had 2 Subs already.

It’s a tough choice! Both Awesome pieces…But since he already has 2 Subs, I’d say go with Pepsi!
