Dallas RSC - told me they do not run serial # to check their stolen database?
Hi all!
I recently purchased a beautiful preowned 2020 126234 with box / warranty card. It arrived earlier this week and I took it to two reputable watch dealers here in Dallas as well as another AD with an in-house service center that said it all looks legit and checks out. My question is, as I’m local to the Dallas area, I took the watch in person to Dallas RSC to have a link removed / adjust the bracelet, and when I asked if they are able to run my serial against their stolen watch database, I was told “We can’t and do not offer that service and aren’t able to authenticate or confirm if it’s been stolen, but we can help with the link.” They did take my watch to the back and came out about 2-3 minutes later after resizing it, but has anyone run into this before? Do you think they just aren’t publicly allowed to state that and they ran the serial number regardless? I obviously don’t want to be wearing a stolen watch and I hope Rolex would want the original buyer to have their watch back if so. It’s just a little concerning for me because if I ever did lose or have my Rolex stolen, I’d definitely hope the RSC was checking any serial # that was in their hands against a database they had. Any insight would help if anyone has had similar experiences! |

So you took your new watch to three reputable watch dealers, one of whom was an AD, to verify authenticity and then you took it to the RSC that is local to you to remove a link, a total of four stops? It seems as if the RSC would’ve been the first and best stop to accomplish your entire task list. Sounds like a lot of driving.

they certainly had checked authenticity and against the rolex stolen database before they resized your watch. they just don't want to tell you.

You purchased a "gray" watch. Why would Rolex authenticate any grey watch without a 100% disassembly, and ability to verify each and every component of the watch as Rolex made?

Whenever you go grey you know the case back has been opened.

RSC will check it for themselves before servicing it, or doing any repair work. But it's not available anymore to any customer or 3rd party! Shame!

Since you are local to the Dallas RSC, and your question seems well-founded in terms of not wanting to be wearing a stolen watch, here’s the way to get validation: 1) Submit the watch to the RSC in person for a service quote. That’s it - one step. Easy peasy. They will take your information and run your credit card. You will get an email with your service quote. Or you will get an email announcing that your watch has been seized as stolen. If you want the service, accept what they quote as “required” or decline any “optional” items. This can take 3-6 weeks to get your watch back. If you don’t want the service, decline the quote. This will take about a week to ship back. If it was on their theft registry, get a lawyer. Or (if the seller is reputable) get a refund. If the seller won’t comply, and if they are local, swear out a warrant. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I’ll just take it to RSC when the service need arises, and if I face an issue then, I’ll consider my options and go from there. I do have faith the dealer would make things right if it did end up being confiscated. Thank you again for this advice and my apologies for the unawareness. It’s just my first Rolex, so I figured I’d check with the people here as you all know best! |

Welcome to the forum
I see you're getting a bit of rough treatment over your first foray in this part of the Rolex world Buying your first second hand reference can be daunting with all the unknowns, but you have done all you can to allay any fears you may have around this purchase short of sending it in for a service/quote where the RSC(Rolex Service Centre) in Dallas will run it through the mill and you will have your answers and you can rest easy about the whole thing. It's the only real way to know unfortunately So far, everything seems to be in order except the matter of whether it's stolen. How important is it that you know for sure? Is it a high priority other than resolving the issue while it is fresh after the purchase so you can act quickly? 77T has provided a good response as to how it will unfold. Relax and enjoy that beauty. |

If it is a current production model always buy from an Authorized Dealer. The wait for the watch will be small compared to a lifetime of doubt of what is on your wrist.

Probably get overwhelmed with inquiries given proximity to timepiece gentleman, alpha crown, and the other greys who broke the market via YouTube specials.

I don't know what processes are in place for USA but I bought grey in the UK and received a certificate from:
Thewatchregister.com stipulating that my watch was not on the stolen register. Surely you can find such a service and pay for a check? Welcome to the forum. Sent from my Pixel 8 using Tapatalk |
