5270p Salmon Dial

Good evening! I'm considering adding a 5270p Salmon dial to the collection and wanted to know if there are some owners of it who wouldn't mind sharing pics of theirs? I would just love to see some real life pictures of it in the wild versus the photos from websites that are trying to sell it.

Also, any input on any of the following would be greatly appreciated:

1. Opinions on the timepiece itself
2. How often do you find yourself wearing it?
3. Anything you dislike about the watch
4. Any alternate strap choices/options?
5. Any opinions on long term value of the watch, appreciation, holding value, etc.
6. If anyone knows where I can get a great deal on one or is selling theirs. Best price I've seen is 152k from a dealer that has it in stock right now.


I am a big fan of the 5970 series but the 5970G with salmon dial is damn near impossible to find so I figure this 5270p salmon is the closest thing to it. I guess I just need that extra nudge to pull the trigger on it. Help me out guys! :)

The 5270 in any dial is awesome. The larger dial and larger day/month discs are a huge upgrade from the 5970 (at least for those of us with older eyes).

I agree with that. I own a 5271p and a 5970R and I love both of them equally. We can make some Pros and Cons for each design I would say. :)

Have used mine as a daily and swap to a tan alligator for summer. Beautiful watch and has all the best Patek DNA.

I have owned the watch since December, 2020 at which time I purchased from an AD at list price. A few thoughts pro/con:

1. It has depreciated, but most complications and grand complications sadly do. Perhaps in the long run watches such as this will rise.
2. I don't wear it often; 30 days in 2023 and only 3 days this year. For myself it's more about my lifestyle than anything else. Wearing a $200k watch around town can be nerve-racking!
3. I wish PP did not offer so many salmon dials, it dilutes the uniqueness.
4. My complaint: It requires daily winding; which for me is a problem.

Summary: I own a variety of PP's from popular aquanaut's and nautilus' to grand complications and this is one of my favorite's. I would purchase again without hesitation.

Thank you! That was certainly very helpful. I agree I wish Patek wouldn't dilute with other salmon dials but at the same time they don't come close to the lure of the Perpetual calendar like this. If you could share some pics of it I'd greatly appreciate it as i'm sure others would love to see it as well. :))

My PCC is pretty much the end goal, and yes agree that salmon seems to be a regular feature in PP catalogue now compared to before, which dilutes its ‘rarity’

The salmon 5320G and 5172G scratch only half the itch in current line up.

With the market reset, guess never a better time to find a good preowned 5270P.

I don’t mind resetting/winding as it’s the interaction which I don’t have with others in rotation

Well said! I agree completely on all of those points!

For me its the white number markers on the current lineup that disappoint whereas the blackened hands and numbers of the 5270p salmon are just truly spectacular.

5320G: too much unused space in the dial.

5172G: love the symmetry minus the white hands and number markers. They almost had it right with this one but just missed the mark.

I owned a 5270P for a few months before selling it, liked it but didn't love it. Prefer the blue dial, non-chin 5270G. Aesthetically didn't like the black color against the salmon, nor the fact they used numbers 10 to 2, would have looked better with stick markers, it IMO doesn't match the bottom half of the dial. Makes it look a bit sporty with the black/font numerals which doesn't match the rest of the PCC aesthetic. As someone else mentioned, manual winding and setting a PCC each time, especially if you don't wear it often, is an inconvenience. Just my .02

I love the watch. I don’t have the salmon I have the yellow gold version and it’s the nicest watch I have ever had. Whenever I look at all my watches there’s no question it’s the one I would pick. I could commit to it for the rest of my life. It’s just such a classic Patek. I wear it way more than I thought I would. I think it’s one of the best watches they’ve ever made and will be appreciated later on. It’s a little bit of a pain being manual and having to set it but it’s not a bad problem to have. I’ve never seen the salmon or any of the other versions but I’m sure they’re all spectacular.
