Been a long time reader and rarely post but here is my contribution…a ‘71 Sub 1680. My grandfather had bought this for him as a parting gift leaving Hong Kong to attend university in Canada. I have the original bracelet but opted to go NATO for peace of mind and preservation of the original “pateted” bracelet.
I’m actually just now noticing that it isn’t keeping time…seconds hand ticks away just fine but the minutes and hours struggle for a bit then stop while seconds keep on going…probably not the thread for it so I’ll ask for advice elsewhere. Thanks for everyone’s time!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Happy Friday indeed, one of my favorite Tudor.
Love the feel on the wrist, more especially with a nato strap. |

Wow. I have not seen those type of numbers before. Almost a deco look.

Sadly, it’s not too often I wear this one anymore (out of an over abundance of caution, and all) but took it out tonight. I was reminded that nothing can compare to a gilt dial. Including, the recessed “gold” print, (actually brass from the dial plate). Highly recommend if you can grab one.

Hi! I’m new here. I have a vintage 1972 18038 cal1556, which has recently received a full service by the AD. Looks like new again :))
p.s. why can’t I upload pictures? Only by url? |

My grandfather passed away this summer. He had a Rolex he hadn’t worn in years - it had a cracked crystal and was missing the crown, plus he complained it never kept good time. My dad wasn’t sure if it was even real to begin with - my grandfather had gotten it from his brother who was a bit of a wheeler-dealer and had a guy for everything. So my dad brought it down to me on his last trip. On first look, it was suspect as the bracelet had much of the gold plating worn off and no Rolex crown on the clasp. I removed the bracelet, though, and found markings identifying it as a 1550 from somewhere around 1972-1974. I’m guessing he threw a cheap replacement bracelet on at some point in time.
I just got it back from a local watch shop who sent it off to a Rolex-trained watchmaker in Toronto for a replacement Crystal, crown and tube, plus a full service. It looked like it had never been serviced. I took off the tired gold-plated bracelet and threw on a nice leather strap and I couldn’t be happier. It’s not the rarest or Most desirable Rolex, but wearing this and remembering my grandfather is a real treasure to me. |

Very Rare Tudor 9101/0 'Bullseye' Root Beer from 1974
First 9101/01s in brown and gold I've seen in 40 yrs.
The bullseye dial came in 9121/9101 etc steel in rare blue/silver bullseye, rarer still Red Silver bullseye and unicorn Green and Silver bullseye. This 01 is as rare as the green one and cost more than a Monte Carlo 7159/69 in 74 !! This model style was also available in 1974/5 with newly introduced quartz and they were in gold/pl twice the price of a Monte Carlo and even the steel version in quartz was over 50% more than a 9411/7016 sub - heady quartz days ! Just to thing to go with Toyota S2000GT or a H2C or Z1 900
