1972 Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch - Hard to come by?

I've been searching for a 1972 Omega Speedmaster moonwatch, but can't seem to locate one FS (birth year).

Is this because the Speedmaster was replaced with the MK2 version? Every time I run a search it's only the MK2 that pops up.

Or, I could also be impatient...

Do you want a watch that was produced/assembled in 1972 (you'd need to buy one that includes an Omega Extract from the Archives to be sure), sold in 1972 (you'd need one that comes with box & completed warranty papers and/or original receipt), or stamped 145.022-72 (most of which were likely assembled in 1973)? It's not a very exact science. Once you've decided that...

Vintage Speedmasters that come with original papers/receipt or that come with the Extract from the Archives are pretty rare regardless of the specific year so I think you'll need lots of patience.

I just saw this one pop up. It looks like a nice clean unmolested example of a '72 Speedmaster.

Nice one!

Andy, I'm looking for one that is stamped 1972. As close as I am going to get that it's verifiable. My searches always come up with the MKii...

I don't think Omega had the caseback stamped with every year. I think I read that somewhere and it makes sense. You don't find any -75 either!

Go with a -71 instead, they are easier to find.

Try a WTB over on Omega Forums. There are a couple of good sellers there that can find just about anything Omega-related (both also sell here, but list more Omegas there). Personally, I'd want one with the year stamped in the caseback, and a movement serial number in the correct range for that year. Not a perfect method, but as good as you'll get IMO. .

Good luck with your search!
