Incoming Grand Seiko High-Beat GMT!

This is one I've had my eye on for a long time.

Over the years, as my collection evolved and changed, I formed a great deal of respect and admiration for Grand Seiko. As Hodinkee's Ben Clymer says, it truly is a hidden gem of high horology.

That said, I'm ecstatic for finally adding a GS to the collection. After selling my BLNR, a gmt seemed like the perfect addition to fill that position in my line-up, and the elegant way in which GS executed the complication on this watch made it all the more special. The case construction, hand polishing and dial work are something else. A watch to be admired with a loupe.

Anyway, here is the first wrist shot of my new SBGJ001. To those who don't quite get GS yet, my advice is: handle the watch. Hold it in natural lighting, turn it against the light, look at the multiple facets of the case and their mirror hand polish. Check the dial texture. Watch as the elements of the dial play in the light... and then form your opinion. I've sure formed mine.

Beautiful, congratulation!

Two questions:
1. How is the GMT operated? As in a modern GMT? Can you quickset the date independently?
2. Is this considered snowflake dial?

Thanks! It works exactly like a modern GMT Master II (but it's high-beat ).

This is not the "snowflake" texture that became famous in the spring drive GS model, but a different and quite amazing different texture.

From a vintage GS owner - that's bl**dy lovely!

It's the modern GS that most takes my fancy.

It looks amazing, many, many congratulations. I also think that your description about Grand Seiko is spot on. I hope you don't mind me saying, but your photography is stunning, it makes that watch look stunning, but, even with such wonderful photography, one has got to see a GS in the flesh to see how fabulous they are.

Dave, thanks for the kind words. I admit that, for many (myself included), GS is an acquired taste, but if you give it a chance, it can blow your mind away. On the photos, it's amazing what a camera phone can do if the lighting is good.

Hope you’ll not regret waiting until later this year, when the new Ltd Editions make their appearance…

They look great, but the snow white dial was the one for me.
