Icon7 126610LN incoming – Collection full circle

Hi All,

Below my first post on the forum, asking for input on whether my first watch purchase should be a Date Just or an 116610LN. A few months later I went down to my AD and picked up a fantastic Date Just 36 on a super jubilee. There is something special about that first watch, and how creative one gets in constantly finding new ways to have the light play with the dial.

Hodinkee perfectly described that first watch feeling in a review from 2018:

"There is something deeply, authentically satisfying about being in the presence of something unfussily, and especially, well made. It's as if you'd gone into a hardware store to buy a hammer, wondered why one of the many hammers there is more expensive than the others, snorted at the absurdity of the additional cost, and then picked it up. You note the pleasant heft, the sense of ease coupled to authoritative mass, the overall sense of reassuring solidity, the careful but unostentatious finishing of the steel, and almost without realizing it, you're headed to the cash register, saying to yourself, Now this, my friend, is a hammer."

I went on to add an Omega Speedmaster (3861). I have always admired the history and it was a no-brainer for me when they updated the movement and bracelet back in 2021. I was a little unsure whether I would get tired of the dial, but wore that watch as a daily for nearly two years straight. I love that fact that you are wearing a (mass-produced) piece of history and that it’s a little under the radar. I am a little conflicted with the new release of the white dial, but think that I will stick with the classic.

Also own a moon swatch – It’s a little fun addition to the collection, but one can feel that it lacks quality.

Added a 43 Breitling Navitimer in the reverse panda configuration. It was the first watch that truly caught my eye, and I have spent countless hours drooling over pictures when I was younger. I have postponed that purchase countless times, but finally decided to pull the trigger. Love how the dial shifts between black and blue, and how the complications are there when you need them e.g. you don’t notice the date window at 6’oclock, but the date is there when you need it. Only complaint is the crown action, which leaves a lot to be desired.

A short while ago I added a 126610LN and hence completed the collection I dreamed about when getting into this highly addictive hobby. I am glad that it wasn’t my first purchase, as it from my perspective could be the only watch one needs. It will stay on the wrist for quite some time

I have had my dad involved in more or less all my purchases, and love that it’s a hobby that we share. It makes the collection and the process a little extra special.

The next circle to complete? Considering adding a Day Date or an Explorer II (need a travel watch). An AP RO Chrono would be a small dream, but not getting my hopes up there – would also be the third chrono in the collection. I am missing a GMT, but nothing currently excites me on that front. The grail would be a Patek 5172G, however at those price levels (and my income level), then there are better ways to spend the money.

Nevertheless, excited to continue my watch journey – but for now its time to enjoy.
