Just sent in a 126600 for servicing with RSC, past warranty by 2 months..
Back in Feb 2024, i realised my 126600 was getting quite slow. 10minutes in a week slow. I was thinking at first it was probably not normal but i didn't want to risk the high servicing fee as i read that sport models cost at least SGD$1200 to service. And since it was still keeping time 'relatively' well and all i needed to do was reset the time every week or so, i didn't think much of it.
After reading again and again about the time-keeping feats of a Rolex that others have posted all over various forums, and also reading that seemingly innocuous watch time-keeping irregularities can be a harbinger for greater issues in the future, i decided to do the servicing. But what kind, i wondered. My FIL had contact with a reliable service technician who services all his watches (including some other illustrious brands), and he recommended i look him up. Even though it was a trusted contact who serviced my FIL's watches for over 20 years, i still felt that maybe such an important item deserved the TLC its manufacturer will be able to lavish. And such TLC requires commensurate consideration, of course. After much consideration, i decided to send it in to Singapore's RSC. I decided that i was willing to pay to get this done right. After registration and a short wait, i surrendered my watch and the guarantee card to the service rep. She noted from the card that the watch was 2 months past the 5 year warranty period. I mentally 'tsk-ed' myself for not doing this sooner, and for not paying attention to the warranty end date. The service rep told me they will send me an email with a quotation for the repair in about a week, and, once approved by me, they will start the work on servicing the watch. She asked if i wanted to pre-approve the works so that the turnaround will be faster. Already deciding to bite the $1600+ bullet, i agreed. She said she'll check if Rolex is able to cover the servicing since it's just 2 months past the warranty, but there are no promises. I didn't have high hopes. After all, one of the many things i respected about Rolex, it's that they are professional, and serious about what they do. 5 year warranty is 5 years of warranty. Not 5 years, and 2 months for someone to dally about wondering if a servicing is warranted. 3 weeks later, today, i haven't received the email yet. I did remember saying i wanted to replace the crystal as there was a scratch on it. It was written in the receipt that crystal replacement was confirmed, and it was invoiced for $400. This was excluding the servicing fee, which i fully expected to be around $1200 to $1500. Total about $2000 thereabouts, not including the GST tax of 9%. Anyway, i wanted to know the status of my watch servicing so i called up SG RSC just now to find out. After verifying my identity, the RSC service personnel gave me a small heart attack. She said, 'The total payable is two..five..three...' My mind went blank for a while and my heart skipped a beat... did she just say $2530+??? 'point six zero.' Wait what? $253.60? to service my Rolex? That is 2 months past warranty? I was so shocked i needed to hear her say it again. 'two five three point six zero. That's for your crystal replacement, and what you have to pay when you collect your watch. It should be ready within a month of you sending us the watch.' I'm sure i shouldn't have to say this, but i want to shout it out on the roof tops for anyone who might be in a similar position, or as a reminder for those who can't remember when your warranty ends. If your Rolex has any problems within warranty period, send it in to RSC. |
