Manually wind an automatic Vacheron Constantin

I have a Vacheron Constantin Traditionelle Complete Calendar. Today - after not using the watch for a few weeks - I used the crown to manually wind the watch. After 30 or so turns i felt resistance until i couldn’t turn the crown anymore. I know that for manually wound watches thats normal. But is this normal for automatic watches too? Rolex for instance you can just keep turning the crown indefinitely and the mechanism will just disengage
