Rough Winding GMT

I got my 1958 GMT back from "clean and calibrate" today.

The watch came out of the box with something I had never noticed . . . a problem with winding it. I wanted to wind it 20 times before putting it on. When turning the stem in the "winding" direction it cycles between a "skipping or slipping" feeling to a fairly resistant binding. I've had the watch forty-something years and this is a first.

The jewelry store owner, whom I have no reason to distrust, tells me that they have seen this occur in older watches before.

Any thoughts?
