I bought my first Rolex in January Aged 26, the Explorer 214270(Picture Attached) and I absolutely love it - I wear it every day and I dont regret buying it at all.

I am now turning my attention to want I want next, im on "the list" for a Sub Date but ive been thinking lately that it may look very similar to my Explorer - it has the same bracelet(almost) and a black dial like my EXP.

So I am now considering a DJ41 - I have always loved the long history of the Datejust and the classic look of the pieces, if I do get one itll be this particular example;

126300-0008

I want this piece because the Jubilee is a classic and gives me some variation and i really like the unusual colour of this dial - I really love the DJ41 blue dial but I have an Omega Seamaster 300 in Blue so again, Im going for variation.

Can I have your opinions please? Is going for this DJ a smart choice or should I hold out for a sub date?

The Sub and the DJ are iconic Rolex reference.
Having one sport model like the explorer and the New Sub announcement being around the corner I would go for the DJ now. The blue dial DJ41 is mesmerizing.
The sub you can add as your third.

@TimeAZ Thanks for your thoughts and your compliment :) - I 100% agree on your points about the bezel - I know the fluted jubilee is the purest choice but for the Dark Rhodium I really really love the way the dial blends with the smooth conical bezel, the colours are very similar so it just blends.

You can see it clearly on this photo - I tried this one on at the weekend and I loved it - I know this is on oyster but you can see the dial/bezel blend really well here.

Great point - the DJ will bring lots of balance because then ill have

Omega - Blue Dial Sports Sea/Diver
Explorer - Black Dial Sports Land
DateJust - Rhodium Dial Dressy Classic

and three different bracelet types

Both nice, but I'd go for the sub if/when available

I agree, go fluted! It'll be a "dressier" option. You have a smooth bezel on the casual Explorer. Enjoy shopping!

You can’t go wrong with either. Both great watches. Love the Sub-C date but also enjoy the DJ as it’s a classic. Consider the DJ Wimbledon if you do. Good luck with your decision!

Maybe a stupid (newbie) question, but why does your age matter?

Age? if you mean that in reference to my GMT comment then all I mean is I picture myself having a GMT when im older and when I do some more travelling etc - I think some models like the GMT & Day-Date suit older gents better as I consider those pieces the kind of watches you buy when youve seen and done it all :)

But thats only my opinion and outlook - there is no right and wrong.

Go with a DJ41, many many many people will say go for the Sub Date but I'm not a fan as I prefer the classical look of the DJ over a Sub. The Explorer and DJ will give you two awesome watches that will cover almost every situation that you will meet.

+1. The DJ41 on Jubilee is a classic beauty. Go for it.

Thanks Oxfordian - I see you've actually got the Rhodium DJ, may I ask what combo you have it in?
