Incoming Sub Date
After years of waiting, researching and lusting it finally happened - but things took a few turns.
I’ve been on a “list” of a well known AD out here in the Middle East for over 18 months for a new 116610LN. Back in January I started looking at the DJ41 and so ordered the blue, fluted jubilee. After chasing and chasing the AD, and getting no response, I decided I’d had enough and looked at alternatives. So I tried on the 6 digit Sub at a grey dealer and something didn’t click. It felt bulky, fat and a bit cumbersome. I then went to see a fantastic vintage dealer out here to look at some 5 digits for comparison. What a difference that made. I knew there and then 5 digit was the answer. After passing up on a few older models I decided to look for either a 14060m or 16610 is as good as condition as possible - even if it meant paying a premium. Well, last week I got a call from the dealer I went to see to say he’d just taken in a 2010 year 16610 that he had sold less than a year ago as NOS. It’s been worn around 5 or 6 times and, bar a couple of very minor scratches which are barely noticeable, it is absolutely perfect. It’s a full set with papers, tags, boxes and even unused polishing cloth. So here it is. In my opinion, these 5 digits (and especially the 16610 with the SEL bracelet) are the best looking “modern” subs made. I have always been against buying from anywhere but AD, especially for my first, but this experience has opened my eyes to a whole new world of older Rolex models which I had previously dismissed. I actually feel quite lucky that the AD out here are as bad as they are, otherwise I’d never have picked up this incredible watch. |

Congratulations! I got some 6digit Subs (116610, Hulk, 116613LB) but now settled for a 16610LV and 16613 blue, 5 digit Subs are the best ever made
