AD offering not so popular sports model.

I was at AD to adjust the bracelet size and he said he got something to show me and he went to back room and brought a TTSD. Of course I am on the list for Batman.

I have some purchase history within a year but I am sure I am not on their top priority based on purchase history.

Come to think of it, I am guessing if he was whispering me with TTSD that it will bump up the list for my desirable piece...

Do ADs care if I buy and sell it at my loss or do they mostly love to see me wearing one?

I don't discuss with my AD what I do, or don't do, with my watches.

I mean you could think to sell it while you wait and built the relationship (play their game) but still -- its hard to flip a TT for a good price (over market), and getting into the merely flipping game is not nice, consumes time and it's not nice also for someone who's been waiting for the TT, actually wanting it.

Some do, and some don't. Unless you're getting the piece you want (bundle) along with that purchase, sounds like you'll end up with a piece A) you don't want, B) nothing really tangible of your actual placement for the Batman.

I'd personally pass and just wait.

Don't buy it if you don't like it. I am sure somebody else are waiting for that one, let the person that really want it get it.

Buying the piece could actually work against you as the AD could feel you’ve been taken care of

Agree with many posts. Do not but watches you do not want. Another collector or new to Rolex person may love that watch. Be transparent with the AD if the relationship is there. I would hope that character can balance purchase history

Personally, I don't play that game, I buy it if I like it and see myself wearing it. I turned down a Hulk (when it wasn't hot), a Sub 114060, a blue OP41. But it's your call. Taking a small hit with the TTSD might pay off, if you're ok with that.

I don't get this, on several levels.

1) It's a lot of money.
2) Why buy something you don't want?
3) It's not so easy to sell a multi-thousand dollar watch if your name isn't David.
4) Sales tax
5) <speechless>

That’s the game now. Buy one watch and take a 2k loss and try to get the one that will make you whole or better. Either you play or sit out and wait/hope.

Most of the folks would probably sit out and wait, but it is what it is. I’ve only ever bought the watches I’ve liked or wanted to wear. Taken some non rolex purchase losses that just happened because I wanted to go a different direction with my collection. So personally I wouldn’t do it, but it’s your call.

Reading minds and guessing the future is a waste of time. If you want it, buy it. If you don't, don't.

AD offering not so popular sports model.

Couldn’t care if it was a popular model that could be resold for more than MSRP. If it’s not something I am specifically looking for, it doesn’t make any sense for me to buy it.

Selling a watch is more trouble and headache than it’s worth and it’s funny how some members who have never privately sold watches in the tens of thousands believe it’s a quick easy transaction.

All very good points. What some people don’t understand is the prices greys get are not the prices you and i get while selling pieces. If you have no history, then it’s even harder. They are selling something not very many people care about for the potential that you get to buy something you want? That’s a terrible deal.

Spot on.

Selling expensive watches privately can be really problematic. Between huge selling fees (6.5% on Chrono24 for example), low-ball offers, problems with insurance on shipping, the fact that buyers will always want to pay less when buying privately compared to buying from a company, and the fact there are literally hundreds of other Rolex flippers out there to compete against, and you have a recipe for a selling nightmare.

That's one reason why I only ever buy what I personally like, and not what social media tells me I should be buying.

I wonder if buying or not buying this watch will hurt or help the OP in getting his BLNR
