Thought on this 18238 Day Date 18K Gold Green face??

Just came across this green face all gold day date Rolex presidential ref: 18238in my local area. Just wondering what you guys think about this? Is it worth scooping up as an investment piece for the near short term?

The green dial looks aftermarket, and isn’t a good one IMO.

If you want to buy something as an “investment” you’ll want better condition. Probably something unpolished. These can be found if you keep looking for similar price as youve quoted.

Not sure if the dial is after market, apparently it was sourced from out east.

Either an investment, or looking into a flip here, with the added white dial maybe providing a bonus?

Buy blue-chip stocks if you want an investment.

Watches are a hobby to be enjoyed. They're not an investment, unless you're at pristine auction level spending hundreds of grand. Or more.

That said, you probably won't lose money with a nice vintage piece.

Dial has to be aftermarket, they're trying to mimic this one from the current catalog but the colors are off.

Putting these modern degrade aside, the ones before were all lacquer but yours is shiny. If you can find a genuine Rolex configuration with that dial please share.

As others have said watches arent great investments, but I think you can find VALUE in certain Rolex gold pieces. Im personally biased to Oysterquartz because I like the looks and dont care that its quartz. So IMO this one on HQMilton is worth looking at and its in almost perfect condition - https://www.hqmilton.com/timepieces/...day-date-A4542

It's nice, but the original wide chamfers are gone. The chamfers are the whole point of an OQ case.

Its an N variant with vertical brushing, rounded links, and no chamfers. I cant say for certain its unpolished but it looks close.

All datejust's have the chamfer, and their case shapes + bracelet's remained the same throughout the entire run.

The first day-dates 19018 & 19019's have the chamfer (like the datejusts) with horizontal brushing.




Later ones after ~1986 having refs 19018N & 19019N, are no chamfer with vertical brushing, also all pyramid variants 19028, 19038.

As others have pointed out already, that dial looks aftermarket. The case also looks like its been polished a few times. Its a little hard to tell from the photo, but the bezel flutes look a little off as well. Possibly re-cut or an aftermarket bezel.

For reference, here's my unpolished factory degrade dial day date. As far as I know, the degrade dials only came in blue, oxblood and brown.

I stand corrected, there was a green degrade dial as well in the 5-digit day dates. But its color green was more subtle. Not the neon green with a sunburst effect in OP's post. The image below is a factory degrade green dial.

Frankly, It's a nice watch but the idea of buying with the thought of it being an investment doesn't sound okay to me...
